Strategic Sourcing Specialist Job at Altra Industrial Motion Corp.
Opportunity for a Strategic Sourcing specialist to join our team and oversee strategic sourcing efforts and supplier performance management. It will include working closely with purchasing & operations teams to ensure timely and successful transitions to production. This role is based at Portescap’s manufacturing site in West Chester, PA. The role is on-site but remote work is an option on an as-needed basis.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Sourcing:
- Manage and improve sourcing activities by analyzing the company’s spending and supplier performance
- Analyze part drawings for mechanical and electrical components to be able to communicate needs to suppliers
- Estimate should be costing of components from drawings
- BOM cost reduction by negotiation with suppliers
- Build and execute funnel of sourcing projects
- Cross functional co-ordination (Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Commercial, etc.)
- Perform Make vs Buy analysis for new and existing parts
- Own component sourcing process and timeline until items are internally qualified
Supplier Performance Management:
- Track market trends for price-sensitive commodities
- Assess capabilities of current and potential suppliers, their capacity, cost structure, and identify risk
- Develop and execute a sourcing strategy ensuring continuity of supply and risk mitigation while meeting cost reduction goals
- Discover and qualify new suppliers, lead negotiations, and drive down total landed costs
- Consolidate supply base on commodity needs; develop & execute a growth/retain/exit strategy
Critical Competencies
- Familiarity with precision manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC, gear hobbing, broaching)
- Knowledge of various material grades (e.g., stainless steel)
- Working knowledge of inspection and measurement tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, Gages)
- Familiarity with documentation and process control
- Experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel / Word / Power Point)
- Working knowledge of an ERP (Oracle / SAP)
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or related field is preferred
- 3+ years of experience in Engineering or Manufacturing environment
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing / Problem Solving / process improvement tools is preferred
- Experience with Quality Systems and ISO requirements is preferred
- Experience with international suppliers and related compliance and logistics issues is preferred
