Description:

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Commercial team in our Maple Grove, MN office. As an Engineer at Sandman Structural Engineers (SSE), you are responsible for performing structural analyses and designs, reviewing engineering drawings and designs and adherence to established specifications and standards to ensure the success of our clients and our people.

Core Responsibilities

1. Project Management

Ensure efficiency, profitability, and on-time delivery of projects leading to high levels of client satisfaction.

• Develop project budgets and workload forecasts
• Coordinate project schedules
• Prepare and participate in project kick-off meetings
• Ensure project process compliance
• Maintain project accounting records in real-time
• Assist development of proposals and contracts

2. Design and Technical Expertise

Ensure clear and comprehensive designs that comply with current technical standards and regulations.

• Produce precise solutions for clients by applying knowledge and experience through confidence and ability
• Design a complete project, system, component, or process (as assigned)
• Prepare complete project documents
• Analyze problems and find effective solutions to solve them
• Work on projects of all sizes and work on several projects concurrently

3. Client Relationships

Create an optimal rhythm of client communication to create and sustain trusting relationships and maintain/increase client satisfaction and retention.

• Maintain strong client relationships through consistent and professional communication
• Understand client work pipeline
• Prepare and participate in project meetings in a professional manner
• Understand each clients’ requirements and expectations
• Stay current with clients via check-ins
• Review and recap project success with clients

4. Mentorship

Mentor structural designers and technicians through principles of leading by example, humility,

and collaboration.

• Mentor less experienced team members based on humility and trust with a high expectation of hard work and two-way communication
• Willingly answer questions in a manner that is conducive to the others’ ability to learn and improve their skill set(s)
• Recognize and appreciate team members for contributions and accomplishments
• Delegate duties in a way that all team members are doing their highest and best use

5. Administration

Keep projects up to date in Ajera to ensure clients are invoiced accurately and SSE is paid in a

timely manner.

• Ensure documents and emails are filed appropriately
• Accurately record time to projects
• Assist with invoice processing as requested
• Submit timecard, expenses, and PTO requests in a timely manner
• Participate in internal projects as needed

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
• Physically able to conduct field inspections and testing as assigned
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record
• Reside near our Maple Grove, MN office location
• Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

Preferred:

• 4+ years focus in structural engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Familiarity with one or more of the following service areas: housing and hospitality, commercial, industrial and/or specialty concrete
• Member of professional organization, member and/or officer of local related organization
• Involved in community service programs

Environmental Conditions:

Office environment; field environment; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust,

grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions when conducting field inspections and investigations.
