Position Description:
The Special Education Teacher (Learning Specialist/Case Manager) plans and implements an instructional program that fosters learning and growth for students with disabilities. The Special Education teacher creates a supportive learning environment that enables acquisition of skills and knowledge, and guides students toward reaching their academic, social, intellectual and physical potential. The specialist is responsible for case management and lead instruction of students with behavioral and/or emotional challenges. In addition, the teacher will coordinate the instruction and intervention activities of paraprofessionals. Staff instruction and related services will be designed and provided to students on an individually determined basis. Common areas of concern, however, include improving self-monitoring and self-management, impulse control, anger management, and social skills. As students demonstrate adequate success in these areas, the teacher will implement transition into regular education opportunities.
Special Requirements:
- Master’s Degree
- Current TSPC Licensure with Special Education endorsement.
- The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or background
- Strong ability for collaboration
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of 2nd language acquisition
- Good communication skills, written and oral
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Preference given to individuals with prior successful experience working in a behavior support program, day treatment, or similar programs.
- The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
- Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
- Commitment to equitable and inclusive practices for all students.
- A dedication to their own professional growth and their staff and community in congruence with the district equity policy.
