General Overview of the Camp Counselor:

We are currently looking for energetic & passionate individuals who want to teach.

Join our growing team of summer camp counselors to conduct exciting science programs in the summer. This a great opportunity for college students and teachers that have the summer off to continue their love for working with children.

Part-time and full-time positions are available. Must be a self-starter that wants to inspire students by teaching children that science is all around us. All staff will receive training.

Responsibilities of the Summer Camp Counselor:

Each session is a high-energy, part-entertainment, educational, hands-on camp that runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM throughout thesummer.

Staff will work in shifts AM Shifts (8 AM to 1 PM) or PM Shifts ( 12:30 to 5:30 PM)

Locations (Arlington, Herndon, Alexandria & Fairfax)

• Build strong connections with campers, taking personal responsibility for each camper’s well-being, enjoyment, and development.
• Plan outdoor activities or sports for groups of campers
• Maintain enthusiasm and focus throughout the day, during which you will participate with campers in every aspect of the program.
• Educate campers through games and explorations
• Make sure all safety rules are followed.
• Ensure the camping site is clean and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature
• Actively engage and interact with the children during lunchtime periods.
• Assist with the camper’s snack break and lunch and clean up the area.
• Prepare, organize, and set up / take down all programming materials and areas, and take responsibility for managing the camper’s belongings and camp supplies appropriately.
• Meet SciGenius dress code and appearance requirements
• Communicate professionally with parents as requested by leadership to provide customer connection and relay important information on the camper’s experience.
• Facilitating week-long, full-day STEAM summer camps using a pre-set curriculum.
• Report supply needs to Lead Summer Camp Counselor.
• Ensure that all materials are being utilized effectively at his/her site (limited waste)
• Participate in recreational activities.
• Manage records, including attendance.
• Experience and Credentials of the Camp Counselor

Minimum of 18 years old.

• A love for children.
• Must have a minimum of 3 months of experience or training in a similar role
• High school diploma or GED required; one or more years of college preferred
• Prior experience working with children between the ages of Pre-K through 8th Grade.
• The ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• A genuine passion for and desire to work with children
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean record
• Clean Criminal Record (Background check will be required)
• CPR or First Aid Certification will be a bonus.

Pay: $15.00 to $18 per hour
