Job Overview:
Our Summer Camp Director will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the BKLA Summer Camp program site under the direct supervision of the SVP, coaching and working with the Summer camp staff to create a safe, caring and enriching environment for all children at all times.
The Camp Director is responsible for ensuring that BKLA policies and licensing standards are met in regard to day-to day operations including maintaining up to date records, ensuring supervision policies are implemented, guiding the behavior of children, planning and delivering the weekly curriculum and managing staff.
Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the SVP weekly to keep up to date on the operations, admin, elements of camp
- Work with the leadership team to plan, design, and execute all the projects and tasks leading up to the opening day of camp including, sales, programming, operations strategies
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of camp including planning and implementing quality & innovative programming, daily activities for children and supervising Camp Counselors
- Responsible for meeting all sales and revenue goals as outlined by senior leadership
- Must have finger on pulse of what is trending in the industry
- Oversees all camp staff to ensure they are delivering a quality experience to our campers and their families
- Assist in recruiting, training, developing camp schedules and directing staff/volunteers as needed and lead accreditation process
- Monitor daily camp operations to adhere to all state, local and New York State public health and safety regulations
- Maintains responsibility for the safety of the children at the site
- Supervises the Counselors and volunteers in the classroom or at the site
- Maintain communications with Camp parents, staff, and counselors
- Ensure that all camp payments are made and that invoices are sent to voucher and 1199 programs in a timely matter
- Oversees vendor relationships with, bus companies, location for field trips, special guest, etc.
- Maintain complete and thorough attendance of all students and staff each day
- Submit attendance rosters, schedule changes, licensing paperwork and other reports as requested
- Ensure the safety of all children enrolled in the program by following the supervision standards in the Code of Conduct and Licensing Requirements
- Ensure staff maintains constant head counts when transitioning between different areas and activities
- Ensure that only authorized parent/guardian or emergency contact signs a child in/out of the program and include recording time
- Follow BKLA protocols for dealing with First Aid and emergency situations - Complete necessary paperwork such as incident reports, medical log, etc.
- Use positive group management techniques to anticipate and deal with behavior problems in accordance with BKLA’s Discipline and Expulsion Policy
- Coach, guide and manage the day-to-day duties of all summer camp staff
- Oversee and assign responsibilities each day including leading activities
- Ensure all staff function as positive role models and set a positive example through their behavior
- Address any staff performance issues that affect the program with guidance from SVP
- Promote BKLA Youth Programs and Camps to families
- Assist with planning and implementation of special events
- Maintain a clean and sanitary program environment by ensuring supplies, equipment and tables are cleaned
- Report any maintenance issues via facility app and notify SVP
- Lead monthly fire safety drill and log results to meet Licensing requirements
- Facilitate weekly staff meetings for each unit, submit weekly schedule, disseminate newsletters and updates to summer camp schedules
- Lead staff and campers to safety using the building evacuation rules and procedures in case of emergencies
- Maintain a fun, healthy and safe environment throughout the summer camp program
Requirements/Qualifications:
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required
- 2+ years Supervisory experience and working with children at a summer camp or similar group setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build and foster relationships
- Experience adhering to Licensing requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Google Suite Programs (Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.)
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and handling sensitive and confidential information
- Strong customer service, prioritization, time management, analytical skills, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to work independently
- Make sound decisions under pressure while meeting tight deadlines and open/flexible to last minute changes
- Demonstrate enthusiasm with a sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- High school diplomas or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up-to 35 lbs and transport equipment throughout the facility
- Visually observe the campers and listen to distress signals in a noisy environment
- Able to stand for an extended period and/or lead activities
- Capable of working in extreme heat and humidity during the summer months
