JOB SUMMARY:
The Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of the Porter and Caregiver Departments. Must ensure that staff schedules cover a 24/7 rotation, that staff have the resources needed to complete their tasks safely always providing quality services to all Noncitizens/detainees in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody. Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring that staff maintain a safe work environment adhering to safety rules and health guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will serve as a member of the Management Team and may be required to be on-call.
- Will conduct and/or ensure the provision of on-the-job training with all new employees to ensure a full understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
- Must ensure Porter and Caregiver coverage 24/7 including holidays and weekends. Must create employee schedules to support this coverage.
- Must ensure that designated staff always maintain visual contact of detainees during all activities including with the general care of children to include monitoring, changing diapers, assisting with toilet use and handwashing, feeding and tending to other similar basic needs of children as needed.
- Must ensure that all government furnished clothing be kept in designated shelves.
- Must ensure that supplies are received, inventoried, sorted, stored, labeled, and maintained in clean organized designated areas.
- Schedule supply runs as needed for pre-purchased items such as food, prescriptions, detainee supplies, from vendors or stations/ports.
- Ensure that staff adhere to a schedule for the preparing, heating, receiving, ordering and distribution of meals and supplies (i.e., clothing, towels, hygiene kits, etc.) to detainees.
- Must maintain a daily inventory of all supplies being distributed, supplies on hand, and ensure a process for ordering items to be distributed on schedule.
- Must ensure that Government-furnished clothing in designated shelves and issued to detainees as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to all safety, supervision, and quality of care according to industry safety standards commensurate with those required of state-licensed facilities according to the relevant state.
- Conduct perimeter and facility checks on a regular basis to ensure there are no safety hazards and react proactively to prevent immediate harm to detainees or other staff.
- Must adhere to the Prison Rape Elimination Act and report any incidents or situations deemed as inappropriate conduct according to policies and procedures including the completion of a comprehensive report.
- Must ensure the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the program grounds and surrounding workstations, including picking up trash, sweeping, cleaning of areas required for use in the daily care of detainees (refrigerators etc..) and shredding documents as needed.
- Will ensure a schedule for the laundering of detainee’s own clothes, the issuance of temporary government provided clothing and returning clothes after laundry is completed.
- Will ensure a process for maintaining the personal property of detainees (i.e., Tagging, bagging storing, sealing, and retrieving).
- Must ensure that Forklift operators (Porters) maintain certification and schedule at minimum one licensed forklift driver per shift.
- Must maintain a positive work relationship with CBP officers, supervisors, and all support staff.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested to support the safety, care, and supervision of detainees.
STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older to work with detainees.
- Must maintain any licensures/certifications during employment and/or obtain within required timeframes, if approved.
- Complete any training requirements including CPR/First Aid.
- Must maintain confidentiality in all program areas including any information regarding detainees.
- Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements.
- Maintain professional conduct and ensure appropriate respectful interactions during any contact with detainees, program staff and CBP officers/representatives.
- Enforces safety and security standards for detainees, staff, and visitors.
- Clear MVR Check.
- Clear Background Check.
- Clear drug testing results.
- Clear Tuberculosis results.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- GED/High School Diploma required.
- 2 or more years of experience working in a child-care or shelter setting, and/or working in a 24/7 operation or warehouse setting preferred. May include, Internship or volunteer hours, or
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be considered with 1 year of experience.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA and Food Handlers regulations preferred.
- Demonstrates integrity, both in words and actions, and encourages ethical behavior and decision making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Supervisor will work in-person on-site at the assigned facility.
- Shifts will include an 8-hour period in the time zone where the facility is located, working 5-days a week within a 24/7-day work week.
- The work week may not consist of a traditional Monday through Friday work schedule and working holidays is required.
- Work is conducted in a 24-hour facility setting where the primary language of detainees is Spanish.
- Noise levels will vary indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
- Work environment may include working in offices, either indoors or outdoors.
- Position requires a great deal of standing, walking, stooping, squatting, kneeling and heavy lifting. Can also involve sitting for extended periods to ensure that documentation is entered in a timely.
