POSITION SUMMARY
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for supporting the complete cycle of material flow from the purchase and control of materials to the planning and control of work in process and the finished product. The position ensures that Whitney Blake’s available goods can satisfy the demands of customers. An effective Supply Chain Manager is also responsible for the management of inventory and ensuring production schedules are in line with the company’s sales plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises, establishes, and coordinates the material planning control activities in an ERP environment. Ensures the flow of production planning information and data between and within departments/plants.
- Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of manufacturing production planning, materials requirements planning, capacity requirements, inventory control and purchasing business functions.
- Convert and communicate demand requirements for products and services into detailed plans and schedules for customer responsiveness and inventory attainment.
- Understand standard enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) systems and take ownership of material resource planning (MRP) data input.
- Responsible for materials systems management and dissemination of production scheduling data to ensure the effective execution of daily manufacturing plans.
- Incorporate methods and techniques involved in lean and Just-in-Time (JIT) management.
- Implement and drive continuous improvement activities through the application of change management and best practices.
- Ensure collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments/plants including sales, engineering, quality, manufacturing and management.
- Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Perform other related duties as directed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understanding of company policies and business practices including industry standards, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO requirements, health and safety.
- Sound enterprise resources planning manufacturing resource planning capabilities.
- Demand management, forecasting, production planning and processes.
- Risk management, strategic sourcing and purchasing, and vendor managed inventory.
- Inventory management practices and systems.
- Capable of influencing stakeholders, collecting critical inputs and facilitate collective solutions.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Possess the ability to teach others effectively.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with proper prioritization, be able to give direction and instruction to others.
- Capability to work independently, handle changing priorities and short time constraints.
- Possess good written and verbal communication skills necessary for leading others and working with the public.
- Show strong work ethic necessary for leading by example.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in general business. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for a candidate who can demonstrate capable of successfully fulfilling all responsibilities of the position.
- 3+ years of materials controls experience within a manufacturing environment.
- APICS certification in Production and Inventory Management in plus.
- Ability to work hours, as required, that are appropriate to completing projects and tasks on schedule.
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Proficient computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Have a sound working knowledge of ERP, MRP and other supply chain management systems.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
- This position supervises employees within the purchasing and planning department, is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the department.
- Responsible for overseeing system material plans in Bellows Falls, VT and Monterrey, MX plants.
- Responsible for workflow, training for new employees, and answering job-related questions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Office: Typical office environment.
- Manufacturing: Work involves use of manufacturing equipment or close proximity to equipment. May be exposure to some routine manufacturing related substances.
- Recurring physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, crouching and use of computer.
- Location: Corporate Headquarters in Bellows Falls, Vermont.
- General Hours: 8 am – 5 pm (or as appropriate to accomplish customer satisfaction)
- Key Stakeholders: Executive Leadership Team, Sales, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing
- TRAVEL; Limited travel < 10% to include trips to Monterrey Mexico plant.
