Position SummaryThe Oncology Surgical Coordinator will receive request for surgical procedures, coordinates/schedules surgical services using established hospital protocols and comprehensive knowledge of case types and resource availability. Collects and validates high quality patient demographics, guarantor insurance info, resource availability, CPT, HCPCS and ICD10 codes and obtains precertifications/ authorizations. Assigns and codes ICD-10, CPT, or HCPCS codes to accurately capture clinical data elements for surgical procedures according to regulatory guidelines and hospital rules and regulations. Abstracts other data elements as required. Audits medical records to ensure proper coding completed and to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.

Experience in general medical office, electronic medical records, and medical scheduling, billing and coding. Prefer surgical office experience.

Core Job Functions
- Communicates timely and effectively with appropriate departments and staff all pertinent appointment information. Verify physician orders and effectively complete them. Provide schedules and treatment protocols to patients and other staff members as needed.
- Monitor various reports for precertification need. Perform initial review prior to date of service and concurrent review until precertification obtained. Communicate and collaborate with other departments to eliminate precertification denials.
- Codes are assigned according to regulatory guidelines. Physicians are queried for missing documentation to assure accurate coding, and an account is not finalized until a response is received. Other key data elements are abstracted to provide information for regulatory reporting.
- Audits medical records to ensure proper coding completed and to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies. Evaluates medical records for documentation consistency and adequacy.
