Responsibilities:

What you'll be challenged to do:
SEPI, a division of TranSystems, is looking for Survey Crew Chief. In this position, the candidate will perform and lead crew members in activities on a wide variety of surveying projects for public and private sector clients.

Essential Functions:
  • Take instructions and follow directions.
  • Lead survey crew in executing field surveys accurately and efficiently.
  • Supervise other survey crew members in proper surveying techniques and equipment operations.
  • Provide survey crew leadership in vehicle, instrument and equipment care and maintenance.
  • Develop thorough and accurate field notes, survey reports and calculations.
  • Proactively provide routine communications to supervisors and administrative support staff.
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:

  • Certified Survey Technician, Level II or III (CST) or ability to obtain within specified timeframe
  • Proficient with business software such as Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • A minimum of 5 years survey experience with Survey Crew Chief experience.
  • Position requires comprehensive knowledge of GPS surveying including static, fast static, RTK, and VRS.
  • Proficiency with field survey instruments (Trimble, Leica…)
  • Proficiency using laptop computers and data collection software.
  • Must be a self-starter and work with little guidance.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a survey crew as required.
  • Must be available to travel and work overtime occasionally.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong communication skills

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • Associate degree in surveying/geomatics, civil engineering, or related field preferred
  • SIT or PLS preferred
  • NCDOT and route survey experience considered a plus

Physical/Mental Demands:
  • Talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds daily
Working Conditions:
  • Work in outdoor environment 95% of the time
  • Moderate noise level
  • Travel via automobile on daily basis
