What you’ll do
- The Sustainability Director is responsible for Mattamy’s national ESG initiatives in efforts to achieve our goal of leading the homebuilding industry in developing more sustainably
- Assist Sustainability Managers with their efforts to research and identify current and developing technologies that can increase the sustainability of homes by enhancing waste reduction efforts, increasing recyclable opportunities, evaluating lower carbon alternatives and more
- Work with Sr. Division Managers, Corporate Managers, and local Sustainability Managers to set ESG related goals and identify opportunities to establish and execute ESG initiatives
- Manage Division Sustainability Managers and help them establish local sustainability metrics and deliverables
- Travel to US Divisions and along with Sustainability Managers perform site visits and operational analysis to identify opportunities and evaluate and/or execute initiatives in support of corporate ESG goals to include: business processes, construction methods and building materials
- Collaborate with Division, Architecture, and ESG teams on value engineering opportunities for efficiency and effective construction, and communicate initiatives with all departments involved
- Conduct field audits to ensure Scopes of Work are being enforced along with quality control measures
- Analyze rebate and energy efficiency impacts of potential equipment and technologies to be used
- Oversee the coordination of Divisional Green Teams and help establish employee programs on new sustainability practices – field & office
- Report to Divisions and Executive Leadership on status of sustainability initiatives
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Environmental Science or Sustainable Building - degrees in Engineering, Planning, Construction Management, or other Business area may be considered with experience in a related field
- Would be preferred to have an in-depth knowledge of and experience with home energy conservation and sustainable construction best practices
- Would be preferred to have experience in residential single family or multi-family construction with a knowledge and understanding of residential home building disciplines and estimating
- 2+ years of experience managing others, onsite and remotely
- Would be beneficial to be able to read construction plans
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and be willing to travel regularly to all Mattamy Homes markets, up to 40-50%
- Must have a valid passport to travel to the Mattamy Corporate Office in Toronto, Canada
- Must live within commutable distance to the Mattamy US Corp Ofc in the Orlando/Millenia area
- Must be willing to work 100% onsite (in the office) – this is NOT a remote or hybrid position
- 10 Hour OSHA and SWPPP certified, or willing to get certified
- Demonstrated ability to work with external parties, trade partners, suppliers and industry peers
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong focus on execution of plans and meeting deadlines
- Ability to establish credibility, trust and build relationships with people of all levels of the organization, including but not limited to Purchasing, Design Studio, Construction, Permitting and Architecture
- Forward thinker, self-motivated, who is not afraid to present ideas in sustainability
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude, responsive and action oriented
- Highly organized and detail oriented
Bonus points
- JD Edwards and BuildPro experience preferred
- Obtain Excel Power User skills
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and MS Office programs
- Understanding of the Energy Star 3.1 rating system
- Bilingual a plus
- Willingness to further education in the ESG, Sustainability, and Green Carbon Reduction initiatives
