POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is in the District Clerk’s Office in Dallas, Texas. The incumbent will perform work related to Microsoft Windows workstation and server/domain administration, VMware administration, end-user support, system and application maintenance and troubleshooting, and computer security.
Additionally, the incumbent assists with courtroom support activities, including audio and video components, their network connectivity, and subsequent integration within the courtroom environment. The incumbent also assists with installing and configuring computer hardware and software and performs routine to complex troubleshooting for IT-related systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform Microsoft Windows server/domain administration tasks (ex: user/group, security
permissions, group policies, print services); research event-log warnings and errors; and monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly.
- Perform VMware administrative tasks, primarily VDI-related provisioning.
- Monitor systems using existing management tools and respond to issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers when needed.
- Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.
- Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, and network segments.
- Respond to help desk calls and e-mails, logs computer problems, and assists with routine
problems. Provides information and assistance to users on applications such as word processing and data entry. Assists with creating user accounts and providing end user training when appropriate.
- Assist the help desk and other teams with troubleshooting to identify root cause and provide technical support when needed.
- Assist in the support of audio/visual systems throughout the district for courtroom proceedings, presentations, and video conferencing.
- Create and run reports. Installs and/or assists in the installation of upgrades for new or revised off-the shelf/desktop releases. Sets up, configures, installs, and documents hardware and software.
- Provide support for mobile computing devices and remote access
- Perform inventory control duties (asset management).
- Provide network cabling support when needed.
- Prepare and maintain the documentation, standard operating procedures, and checklists for end users and other technicians. Troubleshoot hardware and software problems. Perform basic system support for VoIP telephone systems, such as additions, deletions, and moves. Analyzes help desk log.
- Monitor day-to-day operations of the equipment and systems. Acts as the technical expert in solving computer problems.
- Provide recommendations for hardware, software and other IT-related equipment.
- Periodic travel to provide support to divisional offices outside of Dallas (Abilene, Amarillo, Fort Worth, Lubbock, San Angelo and Wichita Falls) may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent must have 3-5 years of Microsoft Server administration experience and detailed knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server setup, deployment, and maintenance. The incumbent should also be familiar with VMware virtualization products and managing a virtualized infrastructure.
Additionally, hands-on experience working with hardware and associated software, including servers, desktops, printers, scanners, tablets, smartphones, audio/visual systems, and other peripheral devices, is required. A high school diploma is required. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferable.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
The incumbent is responsible for troubleshooting moderate to complex IT infrastructure- related issues and must be organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent problem- solving skills.
The ability to communicate technical information effectively (orally and in writing) to end users and IT management in a manner that they can understand; the ability to interact effectively and appropriately with others; the ability to provide customer service and resolve difficulties while complying with regulations; rules, and procedures, and the ability to work as part of a team. Knowledge of Cisco VoIP products, wireless systems, judicial case management systems, and A/V experience is preferred.

This position is subject to mandatory Electronic Funds Transfer for payment of net pay. Although limited telework is available, the incumbent must primarily work in the office. Some travel may be required.
OTHER:
Employees of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas are excepted service appointments. Employees are considered at will and are not covered by federal civil service classifications or regulations. Immigration law requires public employers to hire individuals who are lawful permanent residents (i.e., green card holder) seeking U.S. citizenship. Employees must adhere to the Judiciary Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Candidates who are selected for employment in the judiciary must successfully pass a background check or investigation as a condition of employment. The background check will include, at a minimum, an FBI fingerprint check. Full field investigations will be conducted on positions that are classified as high- sensitive. At least three professional references will be checked. Once employed, the candidate may be subject to periodic background investigation updates.
