How I will contribute

The Tax Specialist I will provide support to Asure’s payroll tax service clients. The position is responsible for the compliant and accurate resolution of system, agency, and client issues regarding periodic, quarterly, and annual tax notices and requests from clients, internal staff and taxing authorities. Use the Agency Notice Tracking System (ANTS) program for documentation and resolution of all tax issues and request. Reponses are required to be accurate and timely. Assists with compliant and timely filing of required quarterly and annual tax returns.


  • Performs all duties in compliance with internal procedures, external regulations and brings compliance issues to the attention of Manager.
  • Collaborate in a team environment to:
  • Resolve tax notice issues and communicate instructions or updates to clients. Able to respond to various agency notices inclusive of SUI returns, Missing coupons, Missing returns or wage reports, incorrect rate notices, and zero coupon or return submissions.
  • Ensures that the appropriate documentation (for clients and agencies) in updated in Agency Notice Tracking System (ANTS) tool. Logs in notices from the team email box for assignment and distribution.
  • Assists in client set up of new tax types/ agencies, proper and compliant receipt of authorizations and TPA assignments, and ID number updates. This includes annual SUI rate update handling to ensure accurate UI payments for quarter end processing, frequency updates for timely withholding payments, and basic ID number updates/ resolution of ‘applied for’ situations.
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reporting within timely established deadlines. Quarterly and Annual Tax filing process includes managing controls for all clients to be included in each filing cycle, preparing returns, setup of return and package delivery options, and aiding in additional billing. Assists with notification and collection of quarter end adjustments.
  • Completes and files amended returns. At year-end, acts as primary support to submit Social Security Number (SSN) updates to the Social Security Administration (SSA) via BSO when new W2s are requested to be provided.
  • Completes special projects and coordinates with Manager on progress.


What I will bring

  • Minimum 1 Year of payroll tax payment and/or filing experience.
  • Minimum H.S. diploma/GED equivalent. College degree preferred but not required.
  • Proficient attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Advanced excel and payroll software skills.
  • Multi-state and multi-client local taxation experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Outlook, Evolution Payroll software (preferred, but not required), or other payroll tax software experience.
  • Strong communication skills- written and verbal. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be comfortable working in a performance-based and structured environment with demonstrating high ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply basic concepts in new situations.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment, as well as work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Participation in continuing education with American Payroll Association to obtain knowledge of current payroll tax regulations, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) standing is nice to have.
  • Employee will be expected to deliver timely and accurate results.
