Title: Solution Architect, SEMCO

How do you fit in?

As the Solution Architect for our SEMCO utility, you will lead and support the development and management of a portfolio of solutions supporting our Customer, Utility Operations, Finance and other functions of the utility. This includes oversight of projects, systems, processes, and information for each of these areas.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Solution Architecture – Utilities, you will be a core member of the SEMCO Digital leadership team and will have responsibility for all architecture aspects of the SEMCO Digital estate. You’ll be an independent leader ready to sit in for the Director, Digital – SEMCO, and a key part of the SEMCO Digital succession plan.

Working directly with business and digital leaders, you will develop and maintain multi-year roadmaps that incorporate strategic business initiatives along with Digital asset lifecycle management needs, regulatory requirements, and new technologies to provide business improvements and reduced technical debt for SEMCO. You’ll be comfortable having detailed conversations with business managers and directors, as well as leading strategic sessions and presentations with SEMCO executive leadership.

As initiatives progress, you will provide guidance to solution delivery teams and ensure they are doing the right things in the right way by creating, maintaining, and leveraging appropriate principles and standards. You will ensure that solutions meet their business objectives along with functional and non-functional requirements. You will understand the role of cloud services including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud-native services, and be able to work with business, application, infrastructure, and security leaders to define, maintain, and improve a hybrid landscape of digital solutions and services.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading the Digital architecture function for SEMCO
• Sitting in the SEMCO Digital leadership team
• Overseeing project solution architects and managing vendors
• Working independently, collaborating with business leaders in Operations, Engineering, Customer, and other areas on key deliverables
• Using your expertise and analytical abilities to resolve complex and extensive problems
• Presenting options and recommendations to SEMCO executive leadership and driving consensus on strategic Digital investments
• Serving as a senior individual contributor while leading up to 2 direct reports
• Documenting all solution architecture design and analysis work and / or overseeing the development of these artifacts by staff, contractors, and vendors
• Working closely with business leaders to develop target-state architecture models to support future business requirements
• Monitoring the lifecycle of digital assets and including maintenance of these assets in overall planning, including decisions to maintain, refresh, or retire services, applications, technologies, processes, and information
• Leading the evaluation, design, and implementation of solution architectures leveraging business applications and technologies
• Developing and maintaining a roadmap for the evolution of the SEMCO solution portfolio from current to target state
• Understanding emerging technology trends and disruptions and their practical application to improving utility business and operating models, processes, and functions
• Analyzing the business-digital environment to detect critical deficiencies and technical debt, and recommend solutions for improvement
• Facilitating the technical evaluation and selection of digital products and services
• Acting as an internal consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes
• Creating architectural designs to guide and contextualize solution development across products, services, projects, and systems, including applications, technologies, processes, and information
• Working closely with the program management office (PMO) or project management office to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised throughout the project or product lifecycle
• Providing consulting support to application architects within project teams to ensure the project or product is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture
• Providing deliverables like standard definitions, reference models, and architecture designs to support architectural governance to assess the impact of new and ongoing technology investment on the business and digital estate
• Designing and directing the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions architecture assurance and compliance
• Defining the principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's target-state architecture vision

What you must have:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information-technology, engineering, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of ten years of experience in at least two IT solution development disciplines, including technical or infrastructure architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management, cybersecurity, IT operations, cloud development, business analysis, or technical project management
• Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, platforms, and processing environments
• A solid understanding of strategic and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing and emerging technologies to utilities business and operating models
• An advanced understanding of waterfall and agile principles and development methodologies and capability of supporting development teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impacts, and risks while taking account of technical and architectural debt
• Strong experience developing architecture blueprints, strategies, and roadmaps
• Solid experience making you comfortable delivering presentations to senior-level executives, business, and technical audiences
• PMP certification preferred
• TOGAF certification preferred
• Previous experience working in a utilities business is preferred
• Previous architecture-level experience with JD Edwards ERP, CGI PragmaCAD, and/or ESRI ArcGIS preferred
• Previous experience with architecting and operating digital assets in Azure preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
