POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: Responsible for the direction of Water-based Coatings, Sealants, and Press Auxiliaries (Founts and Cleaners) for Paper Packaging and Graphics. This role will oversee technical projects related to water-based coatings, sealants, and press auxiliaries, ensuring the desired results are achieved with the most efficient use of resources, so that the stakeholder’s interests are satisfied to meet the corporation’s financial goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• People management (assigning tasks, ensuring timely project execution & planning):
  • Plan, organize, direct and coordinate lab staff to carry out projects with active guidance and coaching to best serve the functional Materials customers’ needs.
  • Set goals, develop, and assess performance of direct reports.
  • Provide direct reports with guidance, direction, leadership, coaching, development, and necessary support to ensure that they can accomplish their goals.
  • Review and assess the success of project goals, and allocation of resources.
  • Participates with hiring.
• Prioritize, develop, and carry out experimental plans based on input from Product Management and customers to complete projects to agreed timelines. Coordinate, organize, and carry out lab applications testing.
  • Responsible for the development of water-based coatings, sealants, and press auxiliary products, investigating, and solving customer technical challenges, feedback, and responses through EtQ.
• Generate technical project reports and presentations for Technology Leadership, Product Management, and Customers.
• Communicate project results and product recommendations to product management, sales, and major customers.
• Communicate directly with internal operations, QC, supply chain, procurement staff, and vendors on raw materials and cost savings initiatives. Provide customer technical support.
• Interface directly with external customers at internal or external trials and technical meetings.
• Maintain existing business while supporting new business opportunities.
• Miscellaneous (e.g., working with tollers to establish local manufacturing, SAP coding, interactions with Analytical and Regulatory teams, and lab work as needed).

• Support manufacturing operations including external tolling, through total ownership of products (formulary through production interfacing with Product Management group).
• Performs other duties as requested.
• Supports Chemical Hygiene plan, meets site safety goals and objectives, and contributes to ongoing safety improvement program.
• Ensures that areas of responsibilities meet new ISO 9000:2015 requirements and 5S standards set for the site.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• BS degree in Chemistry/Science/Engineering
• Practical knowledge of statistics
• 5+ years of coatings raw materials and products, formulating experience, proven R&D, and applications project management skills.
• Strong knowledge of coatings and sealants chemistry including water-based products.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• MS or Ph.D. is a plus.
• Six Sigma methodology is a plus.
• Managerial Experience
