Provides information, counseling and support to WIC prenatal and postpartum participants to assist them in breastfeeding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have successfully breastfed
Upon hire, a two-step Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be placed prior to starting employment.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background investigation.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Counsels pregnant and breastfeeding women by telephone at scheduled intervals determined by the local WIC program.
- Refers appropriately and documents on Breastfeeding Peer Counselor chart.
- Attends and assists with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support classes.
- Facilitates with special projects, such as breastfeeding promotion month, bulletin boards, etc.
- Assists in establishing a breastfeeding friendly clinic.
- Accurately documents on contact sheet.
- Submits to clinic supervisor monthly reports of contacts.
- Attends required trainings and/or meetings to increase knowledge and skills of breastfeeding and the WIC program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:
An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

- Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
- Are not considered merit employees.
- Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
The ideal work schedule in clinic is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Wednesday 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Fridays 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
These hours can be adjusted. 24 hours a week minimum to 28 hours a week maximum.
