The Wireless Technologies R&D Group at CableLabs is seeking a test engineer to support wireless research projects at CableLabs. The candidate will be responsible for conducting tests and assembling results for analysis on a wide range of wireless technologies. The candidate should have experience with general testing and testing functions, general understanding of wired and wireless networks, be able conduct tests with little to no assistance, and to work with senior members of the group. The area of focus is on testing current wireless products and prototype / proof-of-concept wireless technologies.


The primary job duties and responsibilities:

  • Assemble / setup different test configurations
  • Analysis issues to determine root cause by debugging and help resolve issues using different wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc) packet sniffers and network protocol analyzers, then reporting issue information to engineering teams
  • Conduct testing on various wireless technologies with a primary focus on Wi-Fi
  • Assemble testing results to be used by senior members of the team
  • Evaluate testing results to ensure they are accurate and complete
  • Develop test plans from high level testing descriptions and specifications
  • Assist with the generation of testing and analysis reports
  • Assist other entities of CableLabs (Kyrio and SCTE) with testing development and implementations
  • Participate and contribute in CableLabs working groups
  • Assembling and maintaining various wireless labs including equipment inventory and test equipment maintenance / calibration
  • Ability to work in collaborative environment
  • Ability to work out of the Louisville Colorado office and Brighton Colorado Test House (i.e., not a remote position)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • A.S or B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 1-3 years testing experience (including internships)
  • Experience with various wireless testing equipment and tools
  • Working knowledge about Wi-Fi packet sniffers and network protocol analyzers, to help resolve and provide debugging information to engineering teams.
  • Experience in setting up and operating Wi-Fi networks
  • Desirable:
    • Familiarity with Wi-Fi protocols
    • Familiarity with mobile technologies (e.g., LTE / 5G) such as eNodeB and MME
    • Familiarity with RF and network test equipment
    • Familiarity in working with User interfaces of various Access Points , tablets, phones and other home networking devices
    • Experience with scripting and automation of test scripts

Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment up to 25lbs.
