Overview:

The music therapist offers music therapy through the VNA to provide music therapy group and individual sessions to clients in need in Indian River County. The music therapist supports the business development activities of the organization. Music therapist will provide music therapy services via collaborations with various community organizations with a focus on mental health and wellbeing. Deliver high customer service orientation and effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate musical skills with competence and include therapeutic use of music and recreational instruments. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research and use best practices in clinical interventions. Recognize patient/group strengths and weaknesses as well as their support systems. Demonstrate the ability to assess, provide, and interpret data and interpret responses to symptom management in treatment.

Shall be familiar with and practice the mission, vision, and values of VNA of the Treasure Coast. Practice core values in delivery of all duties. Must be able to demonstrate all essential duties to effectively perform the role.


Responsibilities:

The individual must be able to perform the essential job duties and responsibilities to be effective. Other duties may be assigned as needed


  • Implement, plan and complete the music therapy assessment with clients and groups in concordance with local organizations.
  • Guide clients in the use of creative therapeutic activities for the purpose of improving or maintaining mental and physical functions and quality of life.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy services with the clients/groups.
  • Document all services provided to clients for VNA and collaborative organization’s records.
  • Instruct other care team members including, when appropriate, administrative workers, volunteers, organization staff, doctors, therapists and other in the clinical use of music therapy to address client needs.
  • Provide in-services to staff, hospitals, nursing homes, doctors, and other related facilities as requested and determined appropriate by supervisor.
  • Participate in special events when appropriate and allowable due to regular scheduled duties.
  • Follow appropriate standards of practice as set forth by the American Music Therapy Association.
  • Educate and provide in-services to staff members and community members on the appropriate use of the music therapy program.
  • Use music therapy to treat a variety of medical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and social needs of clients in an age-appropriate manner as well as being consistent with client cultures, religions and values.
  • Participate job related meetings and contribute the music therapist’s perspective of the clinical needs of patients/families while educating team members about the use of music therapy in meeting care plan needs.
  • Complete all other duties assigned.

Qualifications:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following.


  • Board Certified, MT-BC, or achieve board certification within six months of date of hire.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid Florida driver’s license, and the minimum state required liability auto insurance.
  • MS Office and computer proficient.
  • Skills in GarageBand and iMovie highly desirable
