This is a corporate position supporting casting, machining, and inspection processes and equipment in multiple manufacturing operations. It involves designing, developing, and optimizing casting, machining and inspection fixtures as well as supporting quoting activities for new products. This position interfaces closely with both the Product Development Team and the Operations Teams to drive improved manufacturability and processes that are more efficient.
This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).
- Participate on new product development teams, providing input and direction on fixturing and inspection processes and best practices. Product types will include a variety of aluminum and ductile iron structural components.
- Provide direction for “Design for Manufacturing” (DFM), driving standardization of component designs and manufacturing processes.
- Design tooling to be used by ConMet to produce parts. This includes using the appropriate CAD software such as PTC Creo (required) and any other analysis or design tools required. Factors to be taken into consideration include: quality of part produced, cost of tooling, longevity of tooling and ease of use of tooling.
- Provides problem solving and maintenance support to Tool Room and production and/or organization.
- Provides and controls necessary production documentation, including bill of materials, drawings, and specifications.
- Provides input for all tooling decisions and serve as key contact for project coordination and status.
- Supports casting, machining, and inspection fixture design, build, logistics and repair functions.
- Provides quotation support for the engineering group from tooling prices to vendor selection.
- Assists sales staff/engineer or customer in “part” design review to optimize manufacturability and cost.
- Provides support to ConMet manufacturing personnel during run-off of the tooling and whenever help is required as the job moves into production ensuring that parts are manufacturable for our processes as designed.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university and extended education and experience in related field is suitable (5 years experience in mechanical design is required).
- Tooling design knowledge and experience; may include cast, trim, machining fixturing, and inspection fixturing
- Possess the knowledge and skills required to design robust part fixturing and create associated models & drawings that meet the product and customer requirements. This includes specific skills and knowledge of casting, machining, and inspection processes. Designs must produce practical and functional solutions that meet operational needs.
- Engineering knowledge and skills - Knowledge of mechanical design principles, finite element analysis, engineering documentation and quality systems.
- Understanding and use of basic component and assembly design concepts, including reading engineering drawings und understanding GD&T.
- Understanding of 3-2-1 datum locating principles and FRS locating.
- Experience with APQP principals.
- Must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment of planning and executing manufacturing projects with increasing scope and magnitude and the ability to collaborate across functional departmental lines.
- Knowledge of CAD software (Pro/ENGINEER or AutoCAD) and other analysis or design tools required.
- Travel: periodically up to 25% - Domestic and International (Mexico)

- Salary range
- New hires generally start between $94,689 - $118,361. Placement based on qualifications and professional experience.
- Entire salary range ($94,689 - $ 142,000). Placement based on factors including qualifications, professional experience, and location.
- Targeted annual bonus based on company performance metrics as defined by Amsted Business Unit Incentive Plan is determined by position and experience levels.
