Job Description

Apply now and get trained while being paid as a Tradeshelper for the award-winning Chesapeake Central Fleet where you’ll assist industry leading technicians in performing preventive maintenance and repairs to a diverse fleet of automotive vehicles, heavy trucks and construction equipment.

- Assist technicians in routine maintenance such as building and changing tires, jump starting and replacing batteries, inspecting and replacing brakes.
- Perform tire repairs such as patching/plugging.
Assist in the preventive maintenance, fluid and filter services, minor repairs, and maintenance documentation.
May assist technician in vehicle modifications such as installing or removing special equipment.
May be required to transport vehicles and equipment to and from vendors.
Operates a wide variety of shop equipment, machinery and specialized tools.
Performs shop or area maintenance such as general clean up.
Prepares documentation for maintenance activities such as repairs made, parts used, costs, and other information.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires one month of vocational training or a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special certifications may be required based on department and assignment.

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a vehicle repair field is a plus.
- Working knowledge of tire repair and replacement is a plus.
Experience in vehicle/equipment preventive maintenance is a plus.
Experience with the use of common hand tools and equipment.
