The Trainer will collaborate with subject matter experts to design curriculum, create original course materials, and present live and webinar training events. These events cover all topics related to criminal defense practice, including criminal law, legal ethics, professionalism, case management systems, and software applications In this position, you will have the opportunity to impact the third largest public defender office in the nation. You will have the ability to foster employees' knowledge, skill, and morale while also carrying out our work's mission and purpose.

We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Resources, Computer Information Systems, Legal Studies, Justice Studies, Education, or a related field
  • One year of training experience
  • An equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
  • Experience in a paralegal or legal paraprofessional (legal secretary, mitigation, justice system clerk, initial services, or investigator) capacity working directly on cases
  • Experience developing and conducting both in-person and virtual training to adults in a university, business, or legal setting
  • Experience administrating a learning management system or a platform for the delivery of online courses
  • Experience in serving at-risk populations, such as the impoverished, unhoused, and those with substance use or mental health disorders
  • Experience using case management applications in a criminal justice or legal environment
Job Contributions
  • Implement curriculum and courses as directed by the Training Director
  • Determine ongoing training needs by building relationships, conducting interviews and surveys, and consulting supervisors and managers
  • Create curriculum and course materials to develop professional, interpersonal, legal, and technology skills by collaborating with subject matter experts
  • Master technologies to effectively present practical training courses on case management and presentation systems, computer applications, and software
  • Help other presenters use creative and effective teaching techniques for interactive live courses, webcasts, digitally recorded classes, and hands-on courses
  • Track course evaluations and maintain a record of student satisfaction to make ongoing improvements to course content and delivery of information
  • Manage the training site on SharePoint
  • Organize, post, and share course materials on Google Drive
  • Serve as point of contact for large bi-annual conferences, solicit course proposals, plan the schedule, coordinate faculty, manage the conference site on Eventbrite and Sched
  • Compile the office newsletter, maintain article bank and distribution lists, and post on departmental and public web pages
  • Manage all aspects of training coordination, including documentation for the training program
Working Conditions
  • Most work is performed in an office environment, working in close physical proximity with others and virtually as the workload permits
  • Travel to and from various County locations is necessary
