In-Home Care Aide – Holocaust Survivors

Overview of Responsibilities
The In-Home Care Aide - Holocaust Survivors (IHCA) position supports Holocaust survivors. Under direction of the Director of OAS/SW program the IHCA interfaces with the JFCS Holocaust Survivors
Services team to provide and track the services survivors receive. Key elements of this position include
Companion Services, In-Home Care, and providing Transportation. The IHCA will assist or supervise the survivor with such daily living activities as meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, and shopping, as well as accompanying the survivor to access services outside the home and will follow up with survivors as needed to ensure delivery of and satisfaction with services.
Job Duties
Companion Services
Client Communication
- Responds to calls and/or voicemail messages from Holocaust survivors contacting the OAS/SW
Department regarding needs and scheduling of in-home care and transportation services.
- Provides accurate information, resources, and follow-up to Holocaust survivors through phone calls, emails, and face to face contact.
Food Assistance
- Assists and supervises Holocaust survivors with preparation of meals and snacks.
- Responds to and prepares food assistance requests to assist Holocaust survivors experiencing food insecurity.
Transportation Services
- Responds to transportation requests from Holocaust survivors.
- Provides or arranges transportation to medical or dental appointments, and local shopping.
In-Home Services
- Assists or supervises Holocaust survivors with laundry, and light housekeeping (including but not limited to mopping, cleaning appliances, washing dishes, cleaning bathroom, empty trash).
- Assesses home environment (checks and ensures fire alarms are working properly, monitors environment for fall risks, etc.) for safety.
- Provides light home maintenance, e.g., changing light bulbs.
Administrative Duties
- Assists Director of OAS/SW and Program assistant with tracking Holocaust survivor services.
- Assists with unique events and activities, such as program or Holiday events.
Required skills and Abilities of ideal candidate
- Bilingual in Russian or Ukrainian and English preferred but not required.
- Experience in providing services to a client/customer base and can successfully engage with older adults who are survivors of the Holocaust.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Valid California Driver's License, a reliable automobile, and DMV clearance/proof of safe driving record.
