Job Overview
The Ultrasonographer is a professional diagnostician who works closely with physicians, nurses, and medical imaging technologists to accurately diagnose medical disorders and perform invasive procedures utilizing current technologies.
Documents note in medical record when required, including but not limited to progress notes and patient education. Demonstrates competency in use of Misys radiology information system to view patient imaging history, locate files, track exam completion including additional charges. Tracks completion of examination in radiology information system (Misys) within 30 minutes of exam completion.
Demonstrates competency in basic functions for non-invasive ultrasound examinations including: Instructs and/or assures patient has followed pre-test instructions, acquisition of diagnostic medical images, including but not limited to measurements and flow acquisition. Recognizes artifact or serious abnormalities. Distributes images to radiologist using PACS (or printed film as backup). Communicates effectively to radiologist.
Demonstrates competency in the performance of interventional/invasive ultrasound-guided procedures including but not limited to assembly of previous relative medical images and reports prior to performance of ultrasound-guided interventional procedure. Effectively communicates patient history to radiologist, Imaging nurse, and other participants in the procedure. Assembles and sets up supplies for ultrasound-guided interventional procedures in the Imaging Department. Maintains sterile field working with collaboratively with nurse, radiologist, and technologists when scheduling interventional procedures to: a) minimize patient wait and b) maximize department efficiency. Provides instructions to patient and/or caregiver about the procedure, seeking and answering patient's questions, and providing post-procedure instructions. Assures all patient consent(s) are completed prior to sedation and/or procedure.
Notifies Laboratory of scheduled procedures where pathologist will be required to come to Ultrasound. - Delivers specimens to the Laboratory within identified timeframes following infection control policies for delivery of specimens.
Education/Experience Level
At least six months experience working with a medical doctor in performance of invasive ultrasound-guided procedures preferred.
Credentials beneficial, though not required, in any of the following fields: nursing, radiology, vascular or cardio-vascular.

Pay Range
$30.97 - $51.02
Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility. These factors are considered without regard to an individual's status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
