Job Description Summary

A postdoctoral trainee is needed to work on the role of epithelial cell-cell junctions in the regulation of fibrotic and inflammatory diseases in the gastrointestinal system. Prior experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques, cell-based assays, RNA-related work, patient tissue samples and histology, and mouse models, is strongly encouraged. The trainee is anticipated to design the project with the supervisor, perform the experimentation and related analyses, and write and submit a manuscript that will be the outcome of this work. Participation in local meetings, as well as in at least one international meeting/conference, is also expected.

Job Description

Job duties:

  • Perform standard cell/tissue culture and cell-based assays (cell line maintenance and storage, transfection, infection, viability, migration, invasion assays, extracellular matrix, 3D assays) (20%)
  • Manuscript preparation and submission (20%)
  • Perform immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry and confocal/fluorescence or light microscopy image acquisition (15%)
  • Perform protein isolation from cells/tissues, immunoprecipitation, and Western blotting (10%)
  • Perform DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qRT-PCR and other basic molecular biological analyses (10%)
  • Perform mouse colony maintenance, mouse tissue biopsy and animal husbandry (10%)
  • Data analysis (10%)
  • Prepare solutions, reagents and glassware/equipment as necessary for experiments (5%)

Minimum requirements:

PhD degree in cellular, molecular biology, or other natural life or similar. Experience in a basic science or research laboratory and in laboratory methods, equipment, and manuscript preparation, is preferred.

Skills and abilities:

Experience on any or combination of the following would be beneficial:

  • cell culture
  • RNA isolation, miRNA qRT-PCR, RNAseq analysis
  • immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, mouse work.
  • Experience in cell adhesion and extracellular matrix assays and visualization.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety principles, laboratory equipment and basic science conduct.
  • Must be able and willing to learn and follow new and advanced experimental procedures and methods
  • Must be able to carry out duties independently, with minimal supervision, and being motivated for career development.
