Title: Assistant Copywriter

Reports to: Copywriter

Overview:

The Urban Outfitters Assistant Copywriter plays pivotal role in the web production and digital optimization processes for UrbanOutfitters.com. The Assistant Copywriter is responsible for a variety of copy-related tasks, including writing on-brand product names and descriptions, creating SEO copy and keyword attribution for search and navigation, and providing copy and QA for digital enhancements across all Urban Outfitters platforms.

The ideal candidate is a flexible, driven individual who can excel under pressure and tight time constraints. Exceptional writing, communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to filter and prioritize work strategically are the keys to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Create compelling, trend-driven and brand appropriate product names and descriptions with attention to customer needs, SEO and accuracy of product information
• Identify and utilize appropriate on-site search keywords based on analysis of keyword reporting, trends and business plans
• Partner with buying teams to procure product information through regular communication and tracking
• Regularly research products, materials, trends and other details to develop adequate background for copy creation
• Manage all copy needs through the web production process, including regularly logging workflow within tracking systems, identifying and prioritizing business needs throughout the work day and week
• Regularly QA product names and descriptions with attention to writing style, search optimization, customer needs and comprehension
• Meet and collaborate regularly with business partners, including Buying, Photo Studio teams, Web Production and Merchandising
• Continue to evolve the Urban Outfitters web copy voice in response to creative direction
• Identify continuous improvements to processes and standards
• Stay abreast of industry trends regarding product copy and information
• Contribute to UO Direct team needs, including creating operational copy for digital assets and QA of digital enhancements

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated writing and editing skills. Candidates are required to complete a writing project provided by Urban Outfitters.

• Strong capacity for multi-tasking, organization, working independently and time management. Candidates must be able to prioritize and maintain a high level of accuracy doing multiple tasks in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong critical analysis and research skills and inherent detail-oriented nature. Candidates must be able to regularly identify product information needs, research products and details and quickly make best-practice decisions based on data analysis, brand style and product needs.
• An appreciation for and understanding of the Urban Outfitters customer and aesthetic
• Understanding of current SEO practices
• Must be comfortable working with technical systems
