Webster University's department of Law, Crime, and Social Justice invites applications for a visiting professorship in the Legal Studies MA and BA programs to begin in August, 2023. Duties of the position include: teaching responsibilities consist of a 3/3 teaching load; student advising; program assessment; assistance with accreditation processes; continuing professional development and maintenance of licensure; university and departmental committee work; service to and involvement with the larger legal community.

This is a full-time faculty position appointment with a 9-month contract for the academic year 2023-2024. The position will be in-person on our main campus at Webster Groves, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. The position will start in August 2023.

The desirable candidate will be able to demonstrate academic and teaching proficiency related to law and legal studies through her/his/their academic research and/or professional experience. In addition to teaching in the candidate's area of specialization, the program has teaching needs in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. We hope to hire someone who will contribute to Webster's focus on supporting the needs of a diverse student body.

Individuals need to be flexible and able to teach in multiple modalities including:

Face-to-face only
Hybrid Classroom*
Remote (synchronous learning)
Online (asynchronous learning)
  • The hybrid classroom instructor should have experience simultaneously teaching students in the classroom face-to-face and students remotely through Zoom.

Minimum Qualifications

JD from ABA approved U.S. law school
Membership in the bar of any jurisdiction
Evidence of high quality teaching/instruction
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience at the university level
Experience teaching a diverse student population, including international students
Experience with international law and/or international travel
Experience or interest in curriculum development
