The École is an independent, French-American bilingual school serving an international community of Maternelle-to-Middle School students in New York City’s Flatiron District. The school offers an academic, bilingual program and enrolls more than 300 students from 2 years through 8th Grade (ages 2-14). We are currently seeking a full-time American teacher for our Nursery (3-year-old program) for the 2023-24 school year.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with a French co-teacher, the American Nursery teacher will:

• Organize, plan, and execute developmentally appropriate educational activities for 3-year-old students.
• Support students in acquiring individual skills and language while teaching students to participate actively in a group environment.
• Plan and prepare a nurturing, supportive, engaging, safe classroom community.
• Develop and maintain a strong home-school partnership by engaging in open and collaborative communication with parents and community groups, encouraging family involvement in their child’s learning, and supporting the child’s family relationships.
• Create and use developmentally appropriate, qualitative assessments to monitor student progress and growth.
• Use assessment data to inform lesson planning and differentiation.
• Enforce safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance, and other necessary records.
• Maintain knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in early childhood education.

• Extensive knowledge of early childhood development principles and developmentally appropriate educational practices.
• An enthusiastic personality that will engage three-year-old children.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate with teachers, support staff, parents, and students in a positive and constructive way.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to plan, manage, and evaluate curriculum.
• Ability to implement curriculum, differentiate teaching methods to support a diverse group of learners, and conduct developmentally appropriate, qualitative assessments.
• Willingness to learn from peers and mentors, engage in professional development, and debut new instructional practices with support.

Preferred Skills

Proficiency in French is an asset but not required.

Required Education/Experience

• Teaching certification and/or degree in early childhood education.
• At least two years of recent experience teaching in an early childhood program.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in bilingual/dual language and international education.

Salary

Competitive salary ($60,000 to 75,000 according to experience) and attractive benefits. Position starts August 21, 2023.
