Job Purpose:
Responsible for all aspects of advising the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) first year students with a special focus on pre-health professions.

Essential Duties:
  • Advise students regarding courses that are relevant to their majors and future goals (with an emphasis on pre-health).
  • Counsel students regarding the integration of their personal/career goals and academic experiences

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date individual student advising files

  • Correspond with students, faculty and parents by mail, telephone and e-mail

  • Prepare students for the registration and correct registration problems
  • Create schedules for incoming first year students in the College of Arts and Sciences

  • Advise first year students subject to academic probation and/or dismissal

  • Consult with the Director of Pre-Health Professions



Additional Skills Required:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Excellent writing and computer skills

  • Ability to establish outstanding rapport with students, faculty and administrators

  • Able to multi-task and handle peak work periods

  • Must be able to work with and support pre-health students

  • Must be able to stay up to date on the requirements for pre-health graduate programs (i.e. medical school, dental school, veterinarian school, and physician assistant programs)

  • Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture

  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree is required

Preferred Education:
  • Masters degree is preferred

Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • One (1) year student advising experience, or one year experience working with students ina teaching/advisory capacity, or one year related student interaction experience in higher education

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of academic counseling or related experiences in a college or university setting preferred

Schedule/Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional hours as required.

Full-Time
