The Admission Counselor will assist in all aspects of the admission and financial aid processes to include but not be limited to: managing a domestic recruitment territory via off campus and virtual recruitment; counseling prospective students and families on academic programs as well as admission and financial aid policies; assist in the management of an internal responsibility related to student recruitment; and the review of admission applications. The incumbent will establish and cultivate relationships with high school counselors and prospective students and families through personal communication and correspondence and will conduct presentations to prospective students and families regarding the university as well as admission and financial aid processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a recruitment territory.
- Plan and conduct eight to ten weeks of off campus and virtual recruitment to include high school visits, college fair attendance, group presentations and interviews.
- Develop and implement recruitment initiatives within recruitment territory.
- Conduct group presentations.
- Conduct one-on-one information sessions/interviews in-person and virtually.
- Evaluation of applications for undergraduate admission in order to render a decision.
- Counsel and advise prospective students and parents about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, aid programs, costs, payment plans, and indebtedness. Must be able to individualize information to the particular needs and situation of the student.
- Personal communication, correspondence, and follow up (written, electronic, telephone) with prospective students and families and high school counselors.
- Plan and conduct outreach activities.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Manage an assigned responsibility based on the needs of the office e.g. visit program, scholarship program, communications, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Standing for prolonged periods of time at recruitment events.
- Lifting and carrying college materials to presentations up to 25lbs.
- Frequent night, early morning and weekend hours.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe University programs and campus culture. The ability to articulate the value and benefits of a Saint Joseph’s education to a variety of audiences is essential.
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality.
- The ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain collegial relations with other University staff, faculty and students.
- The ability to work collaboratively as a member of a close and integrated team of admission professionals.
- The ability to plan, organize and implement programs and projects related to the University’s enrollment goals.
- Technology skills to support territory management, daily contact with students, faculty, staff and others, and to support the goals and mission of the University, are essential.
- Must have a strong appreciation for diversity and enthusiasm for working with diverse populations.
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn about Jesuit education and its values.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the university.
- Experience as a student worker in an admission setting or in a leadership position in an academic, extracurricular, service, student, or professional organization at the collegiate level.
