AmeriCorps Project Conserve seeks a dedicated individuals to fill 30 full-time positions serving critical conservation needs of western North Carolina. The program places members in service with host site organizations working to protect the unique natural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region. Each member will serve a 1,700 hour term from September 2022 - July 2023. Members educate and involve local communities in addressing critical conservation issues through community outreach and education, volunteer recruitment / coordination, and direct support of conservation initiatives, including habitat restoration, trail creation and improvement, land management, river clean-ups, and water quality monitoring. In addition to serving on individual projects outlined by Project Conserve host sites, members participate in required trainings and service days up to twice a month with the full Project Conserve team. Trainings may cover a broad range of topics including conflict resolution, wilderness first aid, trail building, invasive plant identification, and disaster preparedness. Member Duties : Service activities include: (1) At-Risk Ecosystem Impacts – Building and improving public trails, training trail volunteers, Coordinating river clean-ups, stream bank stabilization, habitat restoration, and invasive species management on public lands (2) Volunteer Engagement – Recruiting and coordinating volunteers for river clean-ups, monitoring conserved properties, water quality monitoring, direct ecosystem improvements, trails building, and educational events / activities, Implementing effective volunteer management practices (3) Conservation Education – Leading in-classroom and field-based presentations for youth, Leading adult educational activities, including hikes, outings, and events, to increase awareness and appreciation of conservation, Implementing groups workshops and one-on-one training to develop conservation knowledge and skills
