Job Purpose

The Applications Development Specialist is responsible for supporting MacDermid Graphics Solutions customer, co-supplier, and internal Applications Development efforts on a global basis. The position requires working with R&D, Field Service, Sales, and Technical Applications personnel to ensure that customer and MGS interests are served while helping to optimize MacDermid’s exclusive line of products. This includes the design and conduct of experimental or troubleshooting programs to create needed knowledge or solve difficult problems in complex systems. This position requires self-motivation, good communication, industry experience, and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities

• 
  Conduct or participate in new product development and introduction efforts. Assist R&D in specifying performance targets for photopolymer projects and in evaluation of progress against those targets.
• Become expert in designated technology areas both through direct experimentation and study of others’ work in the disciplines of interest.
• Collaborate with centers of industry expertise (industry associations, academic institutions, user groups, co-suppliers, etc.) to increase MGS visibility and participation.
• Provide usable teaching and learning tools (e.g. case studies, technical reports, webinars) on relevant areas of technology to R&D, Technical Applications, and Sales organizations.
• Understand and document customer needs, both expressed and latent.
• Assess emerging technologies and applications of associated technologies. Support product management and marketing in understanding technologies and options for their use, competitive response, and/or value.
• Represent MacDermid in a professional and proactive manner at industry conferences, the FXC, and customer locations.
• Travel estimated 30%.

Qualifications and Experience

• 
  Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field and 3+ years practical experience.
• Applications Development Specialists will have knowledge and practical experience in one or more of these areas: Prepress, Press Management, and Platemaking. Prepress experience, specifically knowledge of Esko Workflows, Expanded Gamut printing, and plate screening and surface patterns, as they pertain to flexographic printing are especially desired.
• Ability to interact effectively and collaborate with Applications Development, R&D, Sales, and Marketing personnel.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications and Lotus Notes.
• Understand customer perspectives and ethnic cultures.
• Ability to apply an entrepreneurial approach to the position, incorporating an attitude of technical competence through ownership, resourcefulness, and personal drive to produce data driven results.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills are also desirable.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
