American Mussel Harvesters is currently looking for full-time workers to join our shellfish growing operation. We have a job available on our oyster, mussel and kelp farming boats that service our shellfish leases in Narragansett Bay. Both boats work out of the State Pier in Newport. In this position you will learn the various skills that it takes to work on the water, be connected to the international aquaculture community, and work on the largest shellfish farm in Rhode Island. Operating our equipment will give you valuable job experience hard to find anywhere else. Pay starts at $18.75/hour (or $150/day) depending on abilities.
- Job tasks vary on the day/season but include every aspect of bringing shellfish from seed to market. The candidate will be trained in all tasks.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be willing to work, we are mechanized but there is still labor involved.
- Must be able to lift eighty pounds.
- A typical day starts at 6am and ends at 3pm with a one-hour break.
- Sometimes we will be working at our shop in Quonset, North Kingstown.
- Must be willing to work in all-weather elements.
- There is room for upward mobility and year-round employment in our company for the right candidate.
