Summary
The Compressor Technician is responsible for providing expert knowledge in gas compression assembly while adhering to BCUS quality and guidelines.

- The Compressor Assembly & Field Technician executes the assembly & testing of Burckhardt Compression's reciprocating compressor built in the Waller, TX workshop.
Assembly & Testing Role:
- The Compressor Assembly & Field Technician will serve as the primary technical expert assigned to a specific work cell within the assembly process.
- Perform the assembly & testing of reciprocating gas compression equipment.Independent hands-on work at assembly workplaces.
Coordinate assembly activities with multiple technicians and/or millwrights.
Set up and adjust compressors for mechanical test run.
Execute mechanical test run according to project specifications.
Assembly and disassembly of compressors for acceptance test with customers
Prepare compressors for preservation & shipment.
- Perform assembly according to Burckhardt's rigorous quality standards including and not limited to:Measurement of assembly clearances
Measurement of rod run outs, main bearing clearances, cylinder end gap clearances, crank web deflections and others based on given specifications and processes.
Ensure correct and thorough documentation of results and appropriate communication in case of variances outside of specifications.
- Responsible for setting the compressor for the Mechanical Run Test, Rod Run Out and Bar-over test. Successfully execute the compressor testing, documenting the results and communicating to customers/supervisors.
- Read and interpret Burkchardt assembly diagrams and schematic drawings and related technical information to correctly and efficiently assemble the machines.
- Keep track of time spent and duties performed in assembly & testing activities. Input hours spent into Production Orders in SAP.
- Keep track of materials consumed during assembly process and maintain record keeping with Production Orders in SAP.
- Responsible in ensuring assembly materials are available at the appropriate work cells by appropriate checking in/out materials, lifting/shifting/handling and cleaning
- Responsible for preparing, preserving and packing compressor equipment for shipment.
Field Service Role:
- All Burckhardt Compressor Assembly technicians will be required to perform field service of Burckhardt equipment. This will require long periods of travel and working in plant environments.
- Field Service work will involve the service and overhaul of Burkchardt Compression equipment.
- In many cases, the field technician will likely follow the same machines built in the shop to the field and execute installation and commission activities of the machines.
Quality Role:
- Perform thorough part inspections that arrive in the facility and flag any questionable parts for NCR reviews.
- Work through the NCR process, contribute towards meaningful repair solutions and mitigate schedule impacts associated with repairs. Capture cost of NCR in terms of hours expended and materials consumed to be reported to Assembly Shop Manager.
- Use a variety of electrical, mechanical and specialty diagnostic test equipment to diagnose problems and provide solutions.
- Works with Quality team to ensure calibration of all tools and instruments used in the shop and maintains current/accurate logs of shop assets.
Safety Role:
- Adhere to regulations and BCUS standards related to gas compression systems to ensure the safety of all workers, the environment and equipment.
- To ensure all safety requirements according to OSHA regulations and Burckhardt's safety manual are met and to strictly enforce a “0” tolerance policy.
- Maintains "Stop Work" authority in the facility and champions Burckhardt's safety policies and procedures.
- Executes all major lifts in the facility.
- Ensures individual assembly cell safety through means of tool talks, safety moments and workshop trainings.
- To perform other required duties as directed by supervisor in supporting or handling daily operations of the business.
Skill Sets needed to help us:
- High school diploma
- Associates Degree in related technical discipline and/or Certificate of Completion of certified Apprenticeship Program or equivalent level of education and work experience desired
- A minimum of ten years in gas reciprocating compression assembly
- Experience assembling, maintaining and servicing slow-speed API-618 compliant reciprocating compressors systems.
- Experience assembling, maintaining and servicing high speed natural gas reciprocating compressors systems.
- Experience in installation & commissioning of foundation & skid mounted reciprocating compressors systems.
- Troubleshooting and repair experience in compressor valves, packing leaks, ring failures etc.
- Machinery diagnostics experience using Windrock or other equivalent diagnostic systems.
- Willing to engage in field work to remote sites across North America.
- Prolific in measuring bare compressor parts with solid understanding of geometric tolerances.
- Should have the ability to measure assembly clearances, create reports and maintain strict quality standards.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Leadership capabilities, decision maker, team player, good customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, and a self-starter
Experience:
- Experience with Burckhardt, Cooper-Bessemer, Ariel, AJAX, Superior, Dresser Rand machines.
- Experience with CAT 3500 & CAT 3600 Series engines.
