Assembly Controls Technician
Role Summary
Purpose and Responsibility of the Position:
Assembly Maintenance Controls Technician will provide support, leadership and direction to the Maintenance Technicians and perform controls function for the Assembly Maintenance Department. The Controls Technician will support and carry out the assignments and responsibilities given them by the Assembly Maintenance Supervisor.
The Assembly Maintenance Controls Technician is responsible to ensure that the Customer, People, and Investor goals are balanced and met.
Key Responsibilities
In general, ensure the achievement of OEE targets for the individual Business Units.
Additional task may include but will not be limited to:
- Work with minimal supervision and work well in a team.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering in the development of standards and specifications, including a complete purchase parts list related to controls systems.
- Plan and implement improvements within Assembly related to the specific controls systems.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams supporting activities related to controls issues.
- Provide technical support for controls systems during the introduction of new models.
- Ensure proper controls specific documentation delivery form the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
- Provide technical support to Assembly for resolving controls related issues.
- Support the Assembly Department Technical Training and Development program by conducting training classes, providing technical documentation, etc.
- Make necessary adjustments to parts and machinery to ensure proper production run.
- Perform duties of an Assembly Maintenance Technician.
- Ensure properly documented equipment breakdown/activity reports.
- Work with area maintenance planner to prioritize task to be done during non-production hours.
- Ensure scheduled maintenance task are completed and on time.
- Identify training needs for Maintenance Weld Technicians. Provide requirements to Maintenance supervisors and training department.
- Provide feedback to maintenance supervisor for performance appraisal documentation.
- Provide leadership and direction during equipment downtime situations. Weld Team leaders must be able to make good judgment decisions on technical matters and interface effectively with production supervision.
- Ensures Root Cause of downtime is properly investigated and addressed.
- Make necessary adjustments to parts and machinery to ensure proper production run.
- Troubleshooting on robots, electrical circuits, pneumatics and hydraulics..
- Ensure new parts get ordered or returned unused part back to the correct stock location.
- Attend QID 2 hour meetings on the shop floor as needed.
- Update verification forms when needed.
- May be required to Rotate Shifts
- Practice good housekeeping on the shop floor and in assembly cells.
- Deal with vendors both parts suppliers and equipment suppliers.
- Supervise the assembly and installation as well as assemble and installs new equipment and is able to make modifications to existing equipment as requested.
- Responsible to train new Maintenance Technicians in equipment and safety as assigned.
- Set up preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment for the Assembly Dept. as laid out by the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Maintain maintenance Quality standards and preventative/ predictive maintenance program for the Assembly Dept. to insure compliance with QS9000 Requirements.
- Maintain safety standards of equipment in work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education and/or Experience
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year experience and/or training; or Technical Apprenticeship with Certification or Journeyman Card; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years of automated manufacturing technical experience required.
- Basic = less than 1 year of experience/training needed; Intermediate = 1-3 years of experience/some training may be needed; Advanced = 3-5 years’ experience/no training needed; Expert = 5+ years’ experience/able to train others. Intermediate = 1-3 years of experience/ some training required. (preferred)
Communication Skills
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customer, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
