About the Opportunity
This is a mobile (remote) position. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need. This option is not available in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, or Washington at this time.
Working in Regulated Settlements at FirstEnergy provides an opportunity to learn about the PJM energy and capacity market as well as how retail shopping impacts utility operations. In this role, the selected candidate will interact with PJM and third-party suppliers; learn how wholesale settlement functions influence activity at PJM; and understand. how certain changes in federal and state regulations impact our Company.
Regulated Settlements interacts routinely with team members from Customer Care, Regulated Commodity Sourcing, FERC & RTO Technical Support, RTO Energy Transactions, Metering & Support Systems, and Rates & Regulatory Affairs. We also participate as members of the PJM Market Settlements and PJM Demand Response subcommittees.
Responsibilities include:
- Executing processes that organize large amounts of data into meaningful reports to internal/external customers of FirstEnergy. This can involve using queries to access and pull data from databases, using SQL code to limit data and writing limited VBA code in excel to organize data.
- Supporting monthly financial closing by compiling key data necessary to create journal entries and support documentation that follows corporate policies and procedures.
- Processing and validating key data from various sources used to support weekly and monthly reporting.
- Calculating wholesale energy data discrepancies between load serving entities and PJM.
- Coordinating and participating in meetings with various internal departments regarding metering and supplier data information.
- Demonstrating commitment to the Company’s Diversity and Inclusion principles and all aspects of safety
- Understanding concepts related to operating in Regional Transmission Organizations and electric industry principles such as PJM energy and capacity markets, demand response, energy efficiency, customer choice and customer electric use patterns.
- Providing a high level of customer service and responsiveness while building relationships and credibility across organization.
- Conducting business specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and making recommendations.
- Consistently anticipate and deliver against a defined action plan.
Qualifications at the Associate Business Analyst level include:
- Two or four year degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline preferred, with a minimum of 0-2 years of professional work experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, primarily Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to apply managerial accounting concepts and provide general financial analysis.
- Experience displaying an attention to detail.
- Desire to work on assignments with firm daily, monthly, and annual timelines.
- Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and develop existing relationships.
- Understand best practices and techniques for addressing customer concerns.
- Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results.
- Demonstrated analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making.
- Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
