Job Purpose:
The Assistant Director of the Center for Student Engagement (Student Events) leads the planning and implementation of a diverse calendar of activities and programs that emphasizes student engagement and a sense of belonging, and enhances the campus community through fostering co-curricular engagement and involvement opportunities. This role provides advisement, vision and strategic direction to the University of Scranton Programming Board (USPB), delivering high-quality campus events to the campus community and developmental learning opportunities to student leaders. This role serves as an expert resource for campus-wide programming and event planning.

Essential Duties:
-Advises the Universitys student-run activities board, the University of Scranton Programming Board (USPB), assisting student leaders in creating a yearly calendar of student events and activities, including contributing to the Late Night at Scranton initiative offering weekend programming-Supervises USPB executive officers (Executive Chair, Vice Chair for Special Events, and Vice Chair for Series) and assists USPB members during all stages of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student events and activities-Provide training to USPB in areas of event planning, leadership development, and budget development and maintenance- Coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of special events, including but not limited to Welcome Week, SpringFest, and Senior Formal- Serves as primary contact for entertainment agencies for various large-scale campus events, including the negotiation and preparation of contracts, in consultation with the Director of the Center for Student Engagement and The University of Scrantons General Counsel- Manages budgets, approve expenditures, track expenses and related fiscal tasks effectively as assigned by the Director of the Center for Student Engagement in accordance with University policy- Serves as an expert resource to other campus departments and student organizations for campus programming and event planning, including but not limited to idea generation, marketing best practices, contract negotiating/vendor management, event management, and program evaluation- Meet regularly with the Director of the Center for Student Engagement to discuss the status of projects, activities, and programs

Additional Skills Required:
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills are required- Ability to work with various constituencies such as students, staff, faculty and the community is essential- The ability to motivate students individually and collectively will be expected- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilize student development theory in work with students and student groups is required- Experience in budget management- Ability to move from one project to another with ease- Ability to anticipate student needs and act upon those needs as necessary with minimal supervision- Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture- Knowledge of technical support needs, such as sound and light is preferred- Evening and weekend work is essential to the realization of goals and objectives of the department

Minimum Education Requirements:
A Masters degree in student affairs, higher education or related human development field is required.

Preferred Education:

Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
Two (2) years experience in a student affairs area is required with preference given for post Masters experience in student activities, orientation, and/or leadership development in higher education.Graduate assistantships in student activities, orientation and/or leadership development may be considered as work experience.
