This position will be working 64 hours every two weeks on the day shift, 8 hour shifts, no weekends.
Responsibilities/Job Description:
Provides care to pediatric patients undergoing invasive, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and cardiac electrophysiology (EP) procedures.
  • Identifies subtle changes in patient status and anticipates potential events.
  • Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and healthcare team to develop and execute plan of care.
  • Assumes accountability for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of care.
  • Provides conscious sedation with physician supervision.
  • Identifies emergent situations and initiates resuscitation measures as warranted.
  • Assesses and documents pulses distal to catheter insertion site pre and post procedure.
  • Recognizes arrhythmias and sudden hemodynamic changes and responds with appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Incorporates new EP technology or procedures as needed.
  • Coordinates inventory of supplies necessary for EP procedures.

Demonstrates ability to safely and accurately operate equipment.
  • Sets up equipment correctly.
  • Operates equipment according to hospital and manufacturing guidelines
  • Provides safe care to the patient while using this equipment.
  • Identifies informational resources regarding equipment.
  • Returns equipment to the appropriate location when it is not in use.
  • Identifies malfunctioning equipment and takes appropriate action to ensure the equipment is removed from service.
  • Operates monitor/ recording equipment in pediatric procedures.
  • Able to electronically and mechanically balance and calibrate pressure transducers and amplifiers in all rooms.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects electrocardiogram tracing problems.
  • Insures all pulmonary opacity code testing equipment is maintained according to established standards.
  • Applies prescribed three major principles of radiation safety at all times.
  • Maintains competence with all Cardiac Cath Lab equipment

Assists with Cardiac Cath Lab procedures.
  • Ability to perform scrub role in procedures in EP, diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Proficient in patient preparation and sterile tray set up

Manages complex medication and infusion therapies.
  • Safely administers medications and infusions guided by knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, normal dosages and method of delivery.
  • Adjusts the patient’s plan of care following the evaluation of patient’s response to the infusion.
Qualifications:
Education
ADN required
BSN preferred

Experience

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory AND Pediatric Electrophysiology Laboratory.
Demonstrated understanding of quality processes.
A minimum of three years’ experience in the organization and submission of Pediatric Cath lab and electrophysiology cases to IMPACT and Pediatric Cath lab cases to CCISC.

License/Certification/Registration


Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Valid MN RN license
