Division/Program Description: Public Programs at The Aspen Institute fulfill the Institute’s mission to broaden the reach of its message to a larger audience. Programs range from the Aspen Ideas Festival. Aspen Ideas – catering to over 4,000 people and covering 12 topics through upwards of 80 events in a single week – to smaller, more topical programs such as the annual Aspen Ideas: Climate and Aspen Ideas: Health, and events we co-produce with other organizations like Citylab, and Unfinished. Programs are generally sponsored and produced in partnership with outside organizations and include significant marketing and press coverage.

Programmatic Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall festival operations, production, and conference services for all Aspen Ideas Festival related events.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Conference Service team, Logistics Director, Resort Event staff, registration team, editorial and PR teams, hotel partners and other key festival vendors.
  • Establish and manage budgets for festival. Manage all major festival contracts and relationships.
  • Once contracts are signed, manage all festival Underwriter programs.
  • Serve as primary contact with NBCU sales team for UW benefit fulfillment.
  • Direct Underwriter management team servicing all festival underwriters.
  • Liaise with Content Development Team and participate in track development as appropriate.
  • Liaise with all Aspen Institute internal divisions that participate in the festival.

Principal Interactions:

Interacts routinely with presenters for the Aspen Institute’s public programs, members of the Meadows staff, Editorial and Communications teams, Public Programs, and Policy Programs, partner organizations, sponsors and external vendors, and Aspen Institute employees at-large.

Knowledge, Education and Experience:

Qualified candidates should have the following:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent intrapersonal and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, Excel and other database programs
  • B.A. degree required
  • Event organization, administrative experience, and intellectual curiosity a plus!
  • Note: long hours are expected at times.

Level of Authority:

  • Supervisory Position as relates to managers, coordinator, administrative and intern staffing
  • No budget authority
