The Associate Director, Principal Gift Stewardship is an integral member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office’s Donor Relations team and plays a key role in strategically stewarding, retaining, and further cultivating MGH’s most generous and influential donors and prospective donors.
Reporting to the Director of Principal Gift Stewardship, the Associate Director will work collaboratively with colleagues across the department and hospital to implement engaging stewardship opportunities that demonstrate the impact of the generosity of our principal and major gifts donors, and illustrate MGH’s genuine gratitude for their philanthropy and other contributions. The Associate Director will develop strategic partnerships with colleagues across the institution; create highly customized donor-centric gifts, reports and activities that promote donor retention and inspire continued and increased giving; design, implement and oversee stewardship and cultivation plans for individual donors and donor cohorts; and utilize metrics to measure the effectiveness of stewardship activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a stewardship manager for a portfolio of $5M+ donors, collaborating with front-line colleagues to strategize, create and implement customized stewardship plans, including custom activities and communications with manageable and sustainable actions for donors; oversee implementation by a variety of constituents
- Understand and gather information about donors’ pertinent MGH relationships, areas of philanthropic focus, and impact of prior giving
- Develop and maintain best practices for stewarding major and principal gift donors by giving level and giving areas.
- Manage all aspects of report design, production and tracking for donors in portfolio; work with vendors, arrange photo shoots, and collaborate with partners across the hospital to ensure accurate content and format
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop reporting standards and formats using InDesign, Ovrture and other software following Mass General style and branding guidelines, ensuring a highly personalized and elevated donor experience and explore the use of other technology for ongoing and personalized stewardship/cultivation communication
- Help create, strengthen and streamline processes to complement principal/major gift stewardship program.
- Maintain consistent best practices for tracking stewardship and cultivation activity in Atlas for ease of review and completeness by Development staff
- Partner with colleagues to gather donor feedback to measure the effectiveness of the stewardship program and improve best practices
- Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues from various departments across the hospital including, but not limited to, hospital marketing, public affairs and communications staff to further advance the MGH’s message and agenda.
- Prepare and regularly update progress reports.
- Undertake other Donor Relations assignments and/or office-wide duties at the request of Development leadership.
- Adhere to the mission, credo, and standards of behavior of Mass General Hospital.
Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience and a bachelor’s degree. Also, the ideal candidate should possess the following skills, abilities, and attributes:
