Acuity’s innovation group, the Technology Solutions Group (TSG), is looking for an AWS Automation Engineer to join their expanding team under the guidance and mentorship of Acuity’s Director of Engineering & Technology Innovation. Acuity is standing up an Innovation Lab, and this position will have a significant impact on Acuity’s culture of innovation and leading-edge cloud computing solutions primed for U.S. federal government implementation. This coveted position will experience a great deal of flexibility and autonomy to experiment with Amazon Web Services (AWS) features, services, and concepts. The AWS Automation Engineer will exemplify cloud computing and engineering practices expected from other AWS engineers in the company and evangelizes industry and vendor best practices.
The Ideal Candidate
- Adheres to DevSecOps culture, CI/CD best practices, and Agile processes and ceremonies
- Tackles challenges with an automation-first mindset and automates quality gates in various deployment pipelines to enforce team standards, security compliance needs, and code quality
- Is able to architect and deploy complex AWS infrastructures and has a bias towards serverless architecture, containerized deployments, and event driven architecture
- Is resourceful, self-sufficient, and can work autonomously
- Is a great team player able to operate in a highly collaborative environment as a high-performing contributor to a scrum or Kanban team
- Possesses the integrity and intuition to ‘do the right thing’ when challenges exist or persist
- Is able to communicate effectively verbally and in written form
Job Duties
By Day 30
- Support and maintain backlog work items found within Acuity’s corporate Innovation Lab’s Jira board
- Manage, maintain, and enhance AWS infrastructure and automation used to win new contracts
- Support other employees with their AWS certification, learning, and experimentation needs
- Support Acuity’s AWS Advanced partnership requirements
- Act as an AWS subject matter expert to the company in a consultative role
By 6+ Months
- Serve as a technical partner to business development and the proposal group and help formulate IT solutions to solve government challenges
- Participate in government tech challenges, coding challenges, tech demos, and oral presentations as needed
- Develop, document, and present pilots, proof of concepts, and prototypes deployed to AWS
- Push, drive, and champion the adoption of new concepts, features, and services available at AWS to the rest of the company
- Support various corporate AWS events such as DeepRacer, Jam, BugBust, and more
- Develop and deliver presentations on AWS and cloud computing topics to others at various events such as the AWS Community of Practice, Senior Management meetings, etc.
Must Haves
- 5+ years of experience automating solutions deployed to AWS
- 5+ years of experience practicing infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform, CloudFormation, and/or the AWS CDK
- 5+ years of experience working on a fast-paced agile team (scrum or kanban)
- 3+ years of experience deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters
- 3+ years of experience automating Continuous Deployment to production without any manual gates
- Work location: Preference will be given to candidates located in the Washington, DC metro area. The TSG is hybrid and its team members balance work-from-home with occasional in-office work at Acuity’s HQ in Reston, VA.
- S. Citizenship required with ability to obtain security clearance (Acuity will sponsor)
Nice-to-Haves
- Possess at least one active AWS certification, preferably one of the following: AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate; AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional; AWS Certified Database - Specialty; AWS Certified Security - Specialty; or AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty
- Possess at least one Kubernetes certification
- Experience with the scaled agile framework (SAFe)
- Experience with AWS Top Secret and/or GovCloud regions
- Experience leading or supporting agile teams that are deploying several solutions to the AWS cloud
- Experience in technical consulting and/or government technology contracting
