Job Position: Behavioral Health Associate

Location: New York NY 10016

Contract: 3+ Months (Contract can be extended)

Pay rate: up to $36.00 / Hourly / W2

Shift Time: Multiple shift

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Behavioral Health Associate performs crisis and/or de-escalation interventions, therapeutic observations, engagements, patient supervision and other behavioral health related duties, including assisting in the implementation of seclusion/restraints for patient's presented to behavioral health services for psychological assessment and treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Utilizes crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices, when necessary and appropriate, with patient whose behavior cannot be otherwise supported without such interventions
• Assists in the application and removal of restraints and the implementation of restraints/seclusion when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel, ensuring the physical and emotional health and safety of the patient when using such methods
• Identifies patient characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behavior(s) and communicates such information to the treatment team
• Performs observation and monitoring of assigned patients on a one to one basis
• Performs patient's checks/rounds as required, and reports observations, interactions and patient activity to assigned nursing staff
• Communicates clinical matters to assigned RN or other professional staff as required; reports any unusual findings to the nurse that may affect the therapeutic
• Escorts patient to required location(s), on and off facility premises.
• Monitors and controls patient, family, visitors and staff traffic flow through behavioral health services
• Assures the safety of patients and staff through property/clothing checks prior to entry to behavioral health services
• Inspects and categorizes client's belongings at time of admission and assures that property is safety maintained at the time of transfer or discharge; notifies appropriate personnel of illegal items for proper handling.
• Participates in therapeutic group activities
• Participates in staff, departmental and team/committee meetings
• Participates in departmental quality assurance/performance improvement activities and other special projects
• Participates in departmental and/or hospital-wide Crisis Management training
• May lead or co-lead discussion groups in areas such as anger management techniques and practices, appropriately documents group activities
• Responds appropriately to patient emergencies such as Crisis Management, Rapid Response and Airway Code
• Performs related work/direct patient care as delegated by RN
• Measures and records vital signs/weights and reports variations in vital signs to RN.
• Demonstrates a professional appearance and demeanor at all times

Required Skills: Conflict Management

Skills: 2 years of experience in behavioral health required
Education: Associate Degree- required AHA BLS - Required
Schedule Notes: five shifts per week with every other weekend

Minimum Degree Required: Associate's Degree (Community College, MBO)
