Summary:
The Bookkeeper maintains the financial records for JRG Attorneys at Law, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Payroll
- Enters payroll into the payroll system semi-monthly. Keeps track of accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) and produces a year to date reports each payroll period. Distributes checks and performs all payroll-related functions under the supervision of the Firm Manager.
- Bookkeeping
- Enters all deposit information into Quickbooks and Firm accounting systems.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts.
- Perform various date-to-day bookkeeping responsibilities.
- Process credit card payments from clients.
- Answer account receivable inquiries.
- Under the supervision of the Firm Manager coordinate all Firm collection activities.
- Generate Pre-Bills for attorney review.
- Ensure all corrections from Pre-Bills are completed.
- Prepare and mail out all final statements.
- Participate in the Firm Fee Agreement process.
- Ensures all coding is correct.
- Enters payments in trust and escrow accounting systems.
- Maintains central filing system of accounting records.
- Prepare miscellaneous reports as requested from attorneys/managers.
- General duties
- Assistance on projects and other duties as assigned.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Backup receptionist as needed.

Required Skills:

- Knowledge of law firm practices is desired.
Education/Experience: High School graduate or Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
Work Experience: At least two to three years of previous experience in a position of comparable responsibility. Specialized experience in accounting practices.
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management.
Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical financial concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Quickbooks, Payroll, Internet software, and Database software.
