POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Development / Account Manager will partner closely with the Branch and Sales Manager, together they will lead BATS’ Northern Bay Area (North Bay, South Bay, Peninsula). This is a very entrepreneurial role. If you always wanted to run your own business, then this may be the right position for you. The BD/AM must have very strong business development/relationship building skills and will work with civil and commercial construction companies. The position will be based out of BATS’ Fremont, CA Branch. Prior experience/knowledge of construction is highly desired. The BD/AM will also perform Project Management tasks for key customers; however, the overall execution of work will be managed by the Sales Manager. A company vehicle may be assigned as part of this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development / Account Management:

  • Perform market research (both online and offline) to identify construction projects throughout the North Valley region. This will be done through developing relationships with construction companies, transportation authorities (e.g. Caltrans) and municipalities (e.g. SMUD).
  • Visit customer jobsites and perform Job Walks.
  • Make customer “cold calls” to develop business leads (outside sales).
  • Maintain Lead Tracking Logs to record and track business development performance and report to management.
  • Navigate construction project “bid boards” searching for construction projects, read Traffic Control and Construction Plans to identify Traffic Control needs, and submit work bids for projects. Strong written communication skills is a must.
  • Follow up on soft leads provided by Estimators (inside sales).
  • Prepare written Quotes for customers for RFPs (request for proposals).
  • Create Sales Forecasts and present to management.


Project Management:

  • Be a single point of contact for key accounts.
  • Assist with scheduling traffic control services, sales and rental orders, and coordinate traffic control plan orders.
  • Assist customers in obtaining roadway encroachment permits.
  • Review customer construction projects and suggest solutions for traffic safety and compliance.
  • Monitor customer project costs vs customer’s budgets and proactively manage customer expectations. Negotiate Change Orders, as needed.
  • Travel: Ability to travel throughout territory as well as to the Bay Area for company meetings/events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • College degree, preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years in Outside Sales, or Project Management.
  • Ability to read Traffic Control or Construction Area Plans (not required, but strongly preferred).
  • Understanding of CA MUTCD (California Manual of Traffic Control Devices), not required but strongly preferred.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, able to work independently and to set their own objectives. Competitive and results oriented with a passion to solve problems and keep customers satisfied.
  • Proven track record of success in business development and sales. Very strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation skills. Able to reach win-win solutions and be seen as adding value.
  • Strong presentation skills (verbal, written and presentation). Proficient in sending compelling written Estimates/Quotes.
  • Proven track record of successful project management experience.
  • Capable of working effectively and collaboratively with a team and with customers.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, MS Excel, Quote tools, Customer Relation Management systems, etc..)
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Spanish speaker, a plus.
  • Must have valid CA Driver’s License with clean driving record.
