The buyer position will procure inventory, outside processing and MRO items as needed. The buyer will also negotiate Purchase Orders and Contracts with Suppliers as necessary. In addition, the buyer will perform analysis on freight and spend, and execute a sourcing strategy for cost savings or to solidify the Supply Chain, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Timely creation of purchase orders daily using MRP
- Quick response time regarding issue resolution and shop floor needs
- Act as the liaison between suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing
- Follow up and expedite purchase orders
- Responsible for supplier on-time-delivery
- New supplier development through analysis of value-added services
- Travel to current and perspective suppliers for auditing purposes
- Heavy involvement with supplier issue resolution
- Track YOY cost reductions, drive sourcing efforts for assigned commodities
- Planning inventory of purchased items to organizational requirements
- Implementation of lean supply chain techniques (VMI, Kanban, etc.)
- Ensure accuracy of receiving transactions
- Reconcile three-way match between PO, Invoice, Receipt
- Analysis of multiple quotations
- Analysis of freight costs
- Other projects as assigned
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technical Discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 2-5 years experience procurement in a quick turn environment. Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Specific Skills: Ability to read basic blueprints, sourcing/cost savings experience, effective negotiation skills, highly organized with experience in a high transaction procurement environment, ability to interact with all facets of management.
- Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: APICS certification preferred
