Capacity Building to End Homelessness - Muskegon Job at AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps Michigan

Community enCompass is a neighborhood development organization serving the core-city neighborhoods in Muskegon, Michigan. The name—Community enCompass—reflects our strong commitment to working WITH our neighbors in a bottom-up approach, partnering with them in our efforts to strengthen the physical, social, and economic fabric of our community. The synergy and streamlined efficiency that has resulted from the merger makes us better equipped to make deep inroads into the community, a vision for the future, and proves that when neighbors participate in decision-making and become advocates for their community, change is possible. The heart of our mission is empowering neighbors to use their gifts to invest in our community as we build a healthy, beautiful, colorful and creative place where we are connected to each other and care for each other to improve our quality of life. Through a wide range of resident-driven programs, we effect positive, sustainable change by empowering individuals to improve the well-being of our community in three core areas: housing, youth, and food. As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you will build capacity within Community enCompass to serve the growing number of people experiencing housing crisis because of poverty, by assisting with development of our new partnership with the Muskegon Public Schools to provide homeless liaison and tutoring services for youth experiencing homelessness. Service benefits include: a living allowance of $17,600, health benefits, childcare benefits (eligibility based), an option of a $6,495 education award or $1,800 cash stipend, non-competitive eligibility for 12 months following service, and a host site provided monthly housing stipend. Questions about the position and VISTA service can be sent to site supervisor Anetri'a Conyers at anetria@communityencompass.org and AmeriCorps program director Kelli Beavers at kbeavers@mihomeless.org.
