Position: Career-Technical Education Media Specialist

SUMMARY
Dayton Public Schools is looking for a Media Specialist to work collaboratively with school administration and staff to develop a media program that supports the academic and career-technical education curriculums.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with students, teachers, and administrators to understand and utilize diverse resources that can contribute to increased student achievement.
- Maintains an inventory of building technology resources.
- Supports the district’s non-negotiables and other Curriculum and Instruction initiatives that support teaching and learning.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the everyday management of the building operations.
- Possesses working knowledge of district wide technology and trains/assists students and staff as needed.
- Ensures staff and students are familiar with district wide technology.
- Demonstrates how to access various databases and instructs students on how to access print and digital materials, periodicals and supplies.
- Serves as a building educational technology resource for staff and students for general software and Learning Management Systems issues.
- Maintains a scheduling system with teachers to support student learning.
- Attends all required staff meetings and other job-related training, including maintaining a working knowledge of current hardware and software applications.
- Assists teachers with classroom projects and authentic learning experiences.
- Promotes the value of experiential learning by coordinating events within the community that showcase student work, i.e., tech prep showcase, CTSO events, Career Fair, scheduling and monitoring Lunch & Learns.
- Provides support to enhance students’ research skills in academic and career-technical subjects.
- Facilitates collaboration, critical thinking, empathy, adaptability, responsibility, and resiliency in the learning process.
- Collaborate with the Work-based Learning Specialist to develop partnerships with the community, i.e., local College/University Libraries.
- Provides unstructured time for research and creativity.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a current license issued by the Ohio Department of Education, preference given to Library Science and/or Technology licenses.
- Prior experience in a school media center, technology, and/or career-technical education is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principals, and methodologies of teaching and learning of current practices in library media.
- Must possess the ability to develop instructional goals for students.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationship and planning in a career-technical high school.
- Ability to collaborate with other instructional personnel.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs.
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a classroom setting.
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions.
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines.
- Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments.
