CHIEF COUNSEL Job at United States Senate
Senior Democratic Senator seeks Chief Counsel. Substantive knowledge and experience dealing with immigration policy is required. Ideal candidates will have experience with civil rights, criminal justice, and judicial nominations, as well as legal practice and policy development. Responsibilities include developing and advancing legislative proposals, analyzing legislation, staffing the Senator in relevant meetings, and preparing policy and legal memos. Interested applicants must have a record of leadership and initiative as well as the ability to navigate complex policy negotiations. The position requires strategic thinking, the ability to work independently, and outstanding legal, analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Ideal candidates will have prior Hill experience and must be able to operate within tight deadlines, as well as have a knowledge of ethics rules. Sensitive constituent casework and engagement with outside groups are important components of the job. A J.D. is required and preferred candidates will have five years or more post-law school experience. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. This office is an equal opportunity employer.
