Children's Programs Assistant Cook/Janitor Job at Our House
Position Summary
Reporting to the Children’s Program Lead Cook, the Children’s Program Assistant Cook / Janitor will be responsible for day-to-day cleanliness of the 19,000 square foot Children’s Center and meals for the children. The Children’s Program Assistant Cook/Janitor will work alongside the Lead Cook to prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snack for up to 65 children attending Little Learners Child Development Program and up to 90 children attending Our Club, an after school and summer program for school-aged children. The Children’s Program Assistant Cook / Janitor will also work alongside Job Trainees and team members to ensure that the Children’s Center is cleaned daily.
Responsibilities
- Provide janitorial services in the Children’s Center
o Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, empty trash, clean restrooms, and any other cleaning spills / accidents that occur throughout the day
o Keep inventory of and organize cleaning supplies
o Maintain a schedule of tasks through the week
o Work closely and coach the Housekeeping Job Trainee
- Provide support to the Children’s Program Lead Cook in preparing and serving meals
o Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snack for the children in attendance
o Clean the kitchen, pots, pans, dishes, and trays after meals
o Ensure all kitchen supplies are properly clean, stored properly, and in good condition
o Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean and in good working order as defined by the Arkansas State Board of Health
o Ensure kitchen, walk in, pantry, and dishroom are sanitized and disinfected and all items are properly stored daily
o When the Children’s Programs Cook is out, the Assistant Cook / Janitor will fill in and assume those roles and responsibilities
- The Assistant Cook / Janitor needs to be knowledgeable in and adhere to all rules, regulations, and requirements and attend mandatory trainings of the following:
o Arkansas Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers
o Department of Health Code for Commercial Kitchens
o Special Nutrition Plan Meal Pattern and other requirement
o Attend Child and Adult Care Food Program training annually
o Complete Servsafe training
Qualifications
The Children’s Program Assistant Cook will be thoroughly committed to Our House’s mission. All candidates should have proven experience in programs that work with high-risk children. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
- At least 1 year experience in the food service industry
- At least 1 year experience in janitorial work
- Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, parents, and community members
- Experience with conflict resolution and/or crisis management
- Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
- Must pass drug test and submit to background checks
- CPR / First Aid certified
Other Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccination required or must meet the legal guidelines for an exemption.
Salary and Benefits
- This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position
- Benefits include employee health insurance (paid by Our House) and optional dental, vision, and life insurance (paid by employee). Benefits become available the first of the month after date of hire.
- 10 days of annual leave per year
- 10 days of holiday leave per year including a “birthday holiday”
