Job Overview


The Clinical Assistant (CA) assists patients and families by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs. The CA provides comfort, transportation, and vital sign monitoring. In addition, the CA supports and assists nursing personnel and other providers in diagnostic procedures and technical treatments and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

Department: CSH NICU
Hours per week: 30, eligible for benefits
Shift: Dayshift . 60 hours per pay period (2 shifts one week, 3 shifts the next week). 0700-1930. Holiday and weekend requirements per unit guidelines.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) –
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association is required.
    • Designation as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required.
  • LICENSURE – Current Colorado state CNA license or Current Colorado state Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or A-EMT or EMT-Intermediate
    • Proof of successful completion of health assessment and nursing foundation courses, in addition to basic medical/surgical clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program may be considered in lieu of designation as a CNA, MA and/or EMT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Attends to the individual needs of patients, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, providing comfort and communicating patient needs with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performs various tasks as assigned, including checking vital signs, weighing patients, applying creams/ointments, applying/changing dressings and collecting specimens.
  • Meets patient needs by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; and reporting observations of the patient to healthcare team members.
  • Serves as a conduit between patients and other healthcare providers by recording and communicating all issues to medical team members.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Stores and prepares rooms and medical equipment for patient and healthcare team member use.
  • Participates in departmental committees and projects as assigned.

Physical Requirements


Ability to Perform Essential Functions of the Job

Body Movement: Will frequently stand/walk up to 12 hours per day. Will frequently use hands while keyboarding and writing. Will frequently sit up to 2-4 hours per day while accessing computer, talking on the telephone, and while attending meetings.

Back and Upper Body (lifting and carrying): Will occasionally lift/force exerted up to 35 pounds/16 kilos

Vision: Constantly uses sight in performance for daily job duties.

Hearing: Constantly uses hearing in performance for daily job duties.

Others: Able to assist or assume direct patient care as census directly permits. While transferring a patient, may encounter a patient who falls or loses balance, causing employee to fall and/or bear the full weight of a patient.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $34,114.52 to $51,171.78
Hourly Salary Range: $16.40 to $24.60
