Responsibilities:
*SIGN ON BONUS - $15,000*
The
Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by a clinical laboratory.
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist maintains equipment and records- The Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs quality assurance activities related to examination performance, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the department.
- The Clinical Laboratory Technologist will perform blood banking which would include the collection, processing, storage and/or distribution of human blood, blood components or blood derivatives.
- A Clinical Laboratory Technologist provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results and/or prepares products for transfusion in support of patient care.
- As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will correlate knowledge and understanding of theory to independently solve problems and answer questions.
- Performs and verifies laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols in a timely manner.
- Performs quality control (QC), and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.
- Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies required in performance of job responsibilities.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
- Direct, review, and/or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel, students, and/or nursing staff as assigned by a Manager/Technical Specialist/Coordinator or Charge Person.
- Completes 1 hour of compliance training annually as defined by the department.
- Attains and documents at least 15 units of continuing education annually as defined by departmental policy.
- Maintains technical competence within areas of responsibility by completing annual competency requirements as defined by departmental policy and documented within the department.
- Corrects and/or reports any safety hazard or malfunctioning of equipment to manager/technical specialist/coordinator/charge person within their work shift as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager/technical specialist.

Education:
- Candidates must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
Experience:
- Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Skills:
- Must be capable of using effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize workload with minimum supervision.
Physical Requirements:
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access relevant work stations.
- Must have the ability to push/pull less than 50 lbs. and lift objects of less than 50 lbs.
- Must have the ability to identify and differentiate colors.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.
