Working under the direction of the Senior Director of Clinical Programs in the Department of Medicine, the Clinical Operations Analyst is responsible for executive level support providing a wide range of strategic planning, budgeting, accounting, and complex technical analysis and recommendations for minor and major Department clinical projects. This role provides expert advice and recommendations for systems, processes, and reports to ensure accurate timely financial management of major programs to Department leadership.
The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the School of Medicine (SoM) with over 4,500 staff, faculty trainees and students and an overall annual budget of approximately $520,000,000 consisting of patient care clinical revenue, sponsored research funds, endowment income and gifts, state funds, other self-sustaining activities and affiliated hospital funding associate with the academic programs within the department. The Department of Medicine is ranked as a leader nationally and internationally in clinical care, research, and education and is the largest Department in the UW system. The Department is made up of thirteen subspecialty divisions: Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Cardiology; Dermatology; Gastroenterology; General Internal Medicine; Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine; Hematology; Medical Genetics; Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition; Nephrology; Oncology; Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine; and Rheumatology. The Department occupies space at multiple sites including University of Washington Medical Center (including Northwest Hospital Campus), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care Systems (VAPSHCS), Puget Sound Blood Center, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC), and other rental space in the Seattle area.
The Clinical Operations Analyst must work with faculty and staff throughout the department and frequently throughout the school of medicine. This person will have contact with all levels of management on an occasional basis as related to specific financial concerns. This position requires excellent operational analysis skills, written and oral communication skills, the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, and project management skills in a multi-task, high-stress environment.
The department’s clinical programs are diverse, offering considerable breadth and depth of expertise in care. Our programs strive to achieve integration with research and training, accelerating the transfer and dissemination of new knowledge.
The department’s clinical programs as a whole have experienced tremendous growth over the past decade in response to patient care needs and medical center program planning. Recent areas of major expansion are FHCC, the Heart Institute, inpatient hospital medicine, and organ care programs such as those for kidney, lung, and liver (including transplantation).
The clinical programs comprise all subspecialties of internal medicine provided at five main sites: UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-Northwest, HMC, FHCC, and the VAPSHCS. In addition, our faculty practice at the Eastside Specialty Center and in University of Washington Neighborhood Clinics. Each practice site has distinctive characteristics and strengths that reflect collaboration with our partners in other departments and in the medical centers.
This position has a direct impact on the integrity and quality of the Department’s clinical programs. This position will not only take great care to ensure that all Department operations are managed in a manner that is reflective of the University of Washington’s integrity and sense of responsibility, but will work to set the standard of excellence in this area. This position will maintain an awareness of, and familiarity with, any policies, procedures and/or regulatory requirements that impact the liability and responsibility of both the Department and the University.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration, Finance, Accounting, Clinical Informatics or related field and 3 years’ experience in a healthcare environment and/or clinical programs and demonstrated success in the management of complex programs, activities or units.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
